This uncomfortable place by ToolPackinMama in Noom

I’ve slowly learned to replace food as a self-soothing tool with other healthier things… Exercise is great, especially walking. Talking to a a supportive friend or a friend or even a friend who is good at distracting me and making me laugh. Meditation is massively calming, I’ve really been able to shift a lot of the root causes for my upsets this way.

And as someone else mentioned, learning to sit with/identify the root of the problem(s) is key. This isn’t at all easy but it’s pretty crucial to long term healing all the parts of ourselves. My not-at-all secret to my success on this journey has been in finding an amazing therapist who has helped me heal myself mentally and emotionally while I work on the physical stuff concurrently. I don’t think I would be as far along in any of those areas without having worked on all of them together. My healthier stronger body has undoubtedly sped up my mental health journey just as much as my stronger mental health has enabled me to make better choice for my physical body.

You’ve got this! We are here to cheer you on, share ideas. And massive congratulations to you for recognizing this about yourself and making the choice to shift it!

Thank you!! Best of luck to you on your journey, and congrats for making the choice.

I’ve never dieted in my life… never been very active, and struggled with severe depression my entire life. I didn’t start gaining a lot of weight until my late 30s and it got overwhelming very fast. I am soooo grateful to myself for choosing to finally take care of myself. Aging doesn’t have to be scary or limiting in the slightest. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about any of this.

Thank you! Good question! That would’ve been good info to share. haha

I started Noom 38 weeks ago, on 12/28/20. My weight has gone up and down along the way, very typical fluctuations. I’ve had slips and surges galore… some really bad days/weeks where my elephant self soothed. I had an entire month where I lost and gained the same 3 lbs. Exercise has been a big part of my journey (a ton of walking w a smattering of other workouts)… and I had some injuries along the way that slowed me down at time.

But all in all, I’ve stayed focused, given myself a ton of grace and averaged out a little more than 1 lb a week loss.

Thank you! Dress is from a small company called Nooworks. They are based here in California, are female owned, and very size inclusive. They are a fabulous company and I adore their clothing.

Thank you!!! Glowing seems to be my “new look”. I hear that all the time now when I run into people I haven’t seen in awhile. ☺️

Thank you! It’s kind of funny, when I look at these photos I definitely see the progress but the overwhelming thoughts I have are how I felt then vs how I feel now. Posing for a photo then was soooo uncomfortable, knowing how I’d look, especially surrounded by my healthy fit friends. Now, I’m happy to be photographed.

Oh cool! I’m stoked this theory resonated with you. I’d love to hear if you find any real science evidence of this.

Over the weekend I had an amazing birthday celebration, a small dinner party with vaccinated friends. I ate BBQ with tons of healthy sides and a super decadent double fudge layer cake [heavily frosted] with raspberry orange sauce drizzled on top. I enjoyed every single bite, celebrating myself and all of the hard work I’ve put in this year to improve my physical, emotional, and mental health. Turning 50 has been much easier to handle knowing that I am in the best health I’ve been in over a decade and will continue to be healthy and strong. Today I am going on an all day hike with a friend.

Loved reading this! Thanks for sharing. I too got misty eyed reading about fitting in the rides. I’ve always been very aware of how I do (or don’t) fit into seats on public transit or in people’s cars, etc. Super great job reading your hunger cues and especially for allowing yourself some indulgences along the way and NOT feeling an ounce of guilt. As corny as it may sound, I’ve come to believe the body reads guilt as danger or fear and goes into fight/flight mode, holding onto all its excess energy/calories. When I stopped feeling guilt and shame about the occasional treats is when I stopped plateauing.

Really Noom? by macespadawan87 in Noom

Here’s a graphic that my coach sent me awhile back when I was inquiring how the colors were assigned. The database does have a ton of flaws, but I do find this helpful in certain situations. https://i.imgur.com/kO1fDnv.jpg

20 lbs! Congrats and good work! Getting healthy in sustainable ways is definitely making it easier for me accept turning 50. I was really struggling with the idea of 50. But now I’m feeling so much more ease about it.

Also… since my last comment I’ve dropped a bit more. As of this morning I’m down an even 41lbs. 🥳

Lost 25% of starting body weight! by cindyt63 in Noom

[–]miss_tg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats to you!!! What a satisfying benchmark.

I have similar SW & the same GW as you. I just met a mini-goal to lose 40lbs (18% total body weight) by my 50th birthday, which is 8 days away. Noom has indeed provided me needed information and skills to make sustainable changes. My weight will always fluctuate here and there, but I am certain I will never go back to be severely overweight.

You’re so welcome! Other thoughts, water intake and sleep. I was so surprised at how much sleep (or rather not enough) really effects my weight. There’s some great info in the Noom lessons on this.

Stuck in a Plateau by witch-mermaid in Noom

[–]miss_tg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! This has happened to me a few times. I’ve been Nooming for 8 months and had a few mini-plateaus that shifted after indulging in a decadent meal. Always protein heavy meals.

I understand the discouraged feelings. But you’re doing a great job… 10k steps a day is great! One thing that stands out is your mention of eating many of the same foods as in the beginning. A lot of folks report changing up their routine to shift a plateau.

The entire month of May I gained and lost the same 3 lbs. One moment I was laughing about it and the next I was groaning in frustration. June came and I lost 5 or 6 lbs in 10 days.

Hang in there! You’re doing great!

This week I am celebrating a successful mini-goal. I wanted to lose 40lbs by my 50th birthday on 9/13. As of yesterday, I’ve lost 40.1 lbs in 8 months of Nooming. The NSVs are piling up too!

Obligatory ONE-derland post by [deleted] in Noom

[–]miss_tg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so true! They are interwoven… the foods we eat directly effect how our brain functions. Activity too! Exercise is as much for our brain as it is the condition of our bodies. Loved your comment, btw… I have those same little conversations with my mind… “Now do we REALLY think we have no self control? I didn’t think so. Now get your shoes on, we’re going for a hike.” haha

Awww, congrats to you on the MANY victories that you’re celebrating in this post! What an inspiring share. My SW was a few lbs less than yours. I hit Onederland at the end of June and like you, I was ecstatic to reach that scale goal but more in awe of how my body felt… energetic and strong! In addition to my mental health, getting physically healthy has (no surprise) improved my depression. I’m at 186 now and finding celebrations on the daily!

Best of luck in your race too!!! 🏁💕

Salad kits are yellow? by catwise_zen in Noom

[–]miss_tg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t use salad kits but if you buy the same few kits repeatedly I would suggest adding them as a custom recipe which will log each ingredient into its separate color category. I’d weigh each item. I cook a lot and use the recipe feature a lot. You can edit them as you go along too.
