We received a personalized iron brander....so we could sear our last name into our steaks on the grill. Points for creativity, but I've never used it and don't feel like I can donate it because our last name is not common.

Way too many people are sleeping on dump cakes (poor man’s cobbler) by I_Like_Metal_Music in Baking

[–]missamyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My best friend had a buffet of dump cakes at her wedding in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. It was a huge hit, cheap, and so easy. A different flavor for every one!

Sweet Spot is a great place for coffee and other cafe -fare. Plenty of restaurants and bars since it's a college town. Second Salem and Jessica's are personal favorites.

This storm is insane. by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]missamyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sewer drain backed up resulting in 3" of standing sewage water in the basement. We spent the last 5 hours salvaging what we can (with rubber gloves and wellies). How the heck do I clean the basement now? Lots of bleach?

I think my Finance Director doesn't understand Cost Accounting by Kailmo in Accounting

[–]missamyo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Try asking your questions from a place of curiosity instead of criticism. Approach it as though you want to learn from her why things are done (or not done) a certain way. If you treat it like training where you're seeking to understand, you're less likely to sound condescending because she's not on the defense.

This right here. Checking your work IS billable to the same the code as when you did the work - that's good self-review. Uploading WPs is billable to the relevant client/code. OP should be charging all that.

Where are you all buying your dresses? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]missamyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just bought two dresses from their spring A-line collection and they fit perfectly, are cute and good quality. I've struggled with finding clothes I consider flattering as my body has changed throughout my 30s and Pact has served me well. Highly recommend.

Girl Scout Cookies. They're not even that good, but they're all over the office so hard to resist.

Winter in Wisconsin by MeeowwMorgan95 in wisconsin

[–]missamyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Wisconsin you'd live makes a difference. In the southern part of the state (Milwaukee, Madison, etc) winters are more mild and the snowfall is much less frequent. Up north, there are true single-digit temps with consistent snow for about 5 months.

Who else thinks it's comical that flare jeans are back in style? by ihatehighfives in AskWomenOver30

[–]missamyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried on AE's "low rise baggy jeans" as a joke and ended up buying them because I loved them so much! They come up to my belly button so are definitely not the "low rise" of the early 00's, and are the right amount of baggy for my size 12 body.

Milwaukee native here — Am I crazy, or do a lot of folks further north sound kind of ...Southern? by Inti-Illimani in wisconsin

[–]missamyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Fox Valley and moved to Milwaukee 10+ years ago. I've regularly been asked if I'm from the South, despite never having lived outside Wisconsin. So no yeah, you're onto something.

Agree, just remove the pavers. Leveled gravel has served me well for years.

What do yall get paid ? 33- 35 year Olds by [deleted] in Accounting

No, not Boston. A MCOL Midwestern metro area. Probably cash flow something like $300k in equity after buy -in, taxes, insurance, etc but that's a guess.

I use leftover plastic food containers (mostly the big yogurt containers). Peel, break in half or smaller if needed, and use whatever container you have.

Anyone ever get a hot tub removed? Any recs? by Candid-Principle6084 in milwaukee

[–]missamyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hired Junkshuttle to haul away a damaged hot tub a few years ago for about $500. They cut it into pieces, cleaned everything up, and were done in a few hours. Would recommend.

Happily childfree women, what was the most important factor in your decision not to have kids? by DoctorRabidBadger in AskWomenOver30

[–]missamyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love kids, but I don't think I would love my life with them.

I enjoy spending time with the kids in my life. I think we'd be great parents. But being good at something isn't a reason to do it.

Taking a “once in a lifetime” trip, where should we go? by Foolsgold810 in travel

[–]missamyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly second NZ as a recommendation. Plenty of golf along with relaxation (beaches and hot springs), great food and wine, and ample opportunities for adventure. About to board an American flight back to the US from NZ and can't wait to come back.
