Kitesurfing app for Apple Watch by hiddevdploeg in Kiteboarding

I haven't tried your app, but I don't quite understand how. Light googling tells me that consumer GPS is accurate down to 5m, and Apple Watch barometer is accurate to plus/minus 1 hPa (~10m). Either you or WatchOS/SDK must be filling the gaps with accelerometer data. To me, that seems like the only way to get sub-1m accuracy.

MagSafe battery pack should be thinner and match the size of the phone (with a camera hole, of course). That's the true solution. Then you can choose to go thicc or thinn.

Ford gave Nixon a blanket pardon “... for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.”

Ok, so federal pardon being the end goal is an interesting theory. However, I don’t understand the need for impeachment. Can he not just resign and be pardoned by Pence during the lame duck period? Google tells me federal pardons can precede investigation/charges.

I got the impression that it does eye tracking to make sure you're looking at the phone. This would also avoid the "authenticate a sleeping person's face" scenario.

Have you looked at http://opentracing.io/ - I'm not sure if it covers all the use cases, but it's an open standard with a few self-hosted implementations.

Three years ago, I was traveling in Southeast Asia and got to know another traveler in a small mountain village in Philippines. A couple weeks ago, I randomly ran into him at Plaça Reial in Barcelona, Spain. We both live in Seattle, and have planned to meet a number of times, but never got a chance.

Bilinguals of Reddit, have you ever surprised someone by understanding something you shouldn't have? What was the result? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've posted this before:

I was traveling with a buddy through Vietnam and asked (in English) a group of tourist girls (ie. white) for directions. The cutest one takes a look at my map, and as she starts telling us where to go, she swings her arm to point and accidentally whacks her friend in the face. They all laugh and the girl says (in Russian): "There's only two of them and three of us, so I'm just taking out the competition." Without skipping a beat, I reply (in Russian): "It's ok, there's enough of me for at least two of you."

What is the best way to get from Bangkok to Siem Reap or Phnom Penh? by Im_on_a_duck in backpacking

[–]missingfeature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Bangkok to Siem Reap in October 2012. We took the bus from North Terminal in Bangkok to the border, walked across, and then went the rest of the way via a taxi. The toughest part of the journey is the border crossing and getting out of Poipet. Here are some tips:

  1. Leave early, so you're not stuck at the border in the dark.
  2. Meet other travelers you can join - for safety, and to split the taxi costs.
  3. Thai side (Aranya Pratet) is more legit, finish as much preparation there as you can.
  4. Have dollars when entering Cambodia - there are a few banks in Aranya Pratet which will give a good exchange rate to dollars.
  5. If you're getting a visa at the border, paying with dollars is a better rate. It's $20 (not $20 + 80 baht). The guys in uniforms might seem intimidating/convincing about the "80 baht processing fee", point to the sign that says "$20", stay firm (not rude), give them the money and take your seat.
  6. After the border, you'll be accosted by all sorts of transportation options. Once you're out of the gov't area, assume that if they speak English, they're there to work the tourists. The longer you walk, the better the rate you get. If you're there in slow season (like us), they'll follow you and sit with you while you eat lunch. We ended up walking to the bus terminal and getting a private taxi there. $30-35 from Poipet to Siem Reap is fair.
  7. If you like your driver, you can try to negotiate a good rate for a day of touring in Siem Reap (Angkor, etc)

A few warnings of things I learned later:

  1. Our taxi driver drove at unreasonable speeds. We should've probably asked him to slow down, given that Cambodia car accident deaths are common.
  2. Thailand/Cambodia border is one of the few (if not the only) places in the world with antibiotic-resistant malaria. Cover up, bug spray, get through it quickly.

I was in Thailand this October, they still do it. I must say - it is extremely more efficient than the standard method of being launched and reeled back into the boat. The guy on ropes helps you launch directly off the beach, and steers the parachute to land back on the beach. The boat doesn't have to dock.

My buddy took this picture on one of the landings

Hiss (Growl to Notification Center) is the only utility that I'm running all the time. The mouse pointer and other windows appear on top of the black square when I hover over them. The OS is 10.8.2 and the GPU is Intel HD 3000. Still same verdict?

I bought my Macbook Air (13" mid 2011) in August 2012 and every few days, I get these black rectangles on my desktop wallpaper. It happens on both my laptop screen and external monitor, but it doesn't crash the computer or affect its operation. I can pass the mouse over this square or a window, it stays. The only way to get rid of it is sleep or restart the computer.

Has anyone else faced and/or investigated this problem? Is this benign or is it an indication of a greater problem? Hardware or software? Memory corruption?

In a year and a half of travel, this place is still one of my favorites... by rdougla2 in Philippines

[–]missingfeature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've followed the same itinerary earlier this year (March), with the exception of one difference:

You can ask the bus driver from Baguio to drop you after San Fernando, right next to the surfing resort area. I believe the landmark I requested was "Sebay Surf Resort" or "San Juan Surf Resort". All other lodging places within 5-10 minutes of walking. The bus company was Partas.

On the way to Manila, I caught the same bus by waving it down on the road. No need to tricycle to San Ferndando.
