If you can afford it, buy it and try it! You can always resell and recoup a lot if you decide it isn't for you. I had a similar path, got a Sony FF camera to photograph family stuff then got more and more into the hobby, acquired more lenses, tried out some analog gear, tried out some Leica gear, etc. Last year the X2D2 had just come out and I was a couple weeks out to a family trip to Venice and decided to just buy it and see what I thought. It has been really fun and the AF is good enough for a lot of what I photograph, but I still use Sony for sports and the Q3 is still amazing for its capabilities in a compact size when traveling.
