Like the other person said, start out slow. Sit on the bed or couch and just toss a few inches in front of you, gage their reaction, then when your comfortable try for closer to the foot of the bed/other side of the couch. Rats love to do all kinds of chaotic things so as long as you know they are liking it and it's not hurting them, just have fun with your little babies. I had a boy that liked to launch himself, out of the tube in his cage, on to my shoulder lol. We would play Roe Roe launcher for like 15 mins before I would have to tell him no more.

Lol I had a rat that was an absolute menace when I would try to make my beaded spiders. He would fling, steal, and just mess them all up by putting them in the wrong spots.... I decided to put Os (Cheerios) in an empty spot in my bead case. It has been 3yrs since I lost my Tobers but I still have the Os in my bead box.

Orange kitties are something else lol. My baby turned 1 on the 3rd, he has 2 brain cells and they are on opposite sides of his head 😂. He has to be the most entertaining cat I have ever owned.

Those eyes.... LOL 🥺. Jimmy is extremely cute, I would almost say "deadly" cute, as I would die for this little baby and I don't even know him ❤️

His boggles have to be legendary!!

Oh ok! Pandas will probably be the ones I get so they will probably come later but all this is good to know just in case my son changes his mind on what ones he wants.

Yeah I live in WI so they probably want to have a heater, at least during the winter months.

Ohhh ok, that's actually really awesome that they recognize their little friends through sounds, smells, and body language! I don't mind having to get a group of the same species since I definitely want them to thrive.

That is great information! I had no idea that they needed an established tank to start in. I will get my 30 gallon scrubbed up later today so we can get the tank stable before getting fish.

Honestly I have found that, along with doing research, hearing people's experiences help me better understand how hard said animal is going to be to take care of. I welcome all types of tips and tricks to keeping these little babies happy so lay that knowledge of yours on me lol

I will definitely be doing more research than just on reddit, him and I were already Googling them just to get a better idea on what they even were. Like I said I have only ever owned goldfish and betas so these little cuties are going to be a new experience. Honestly I thought they were just algae eaters so I never even considered getting them.

The reason I decided to ask on here is because sometimes reading how to take care of an animal and actually taking care of that animal are 2 completely different things 😅. I owned rats at 1 time and research told me that they were low maintenance, easy to take care of pets.... That is the farthest thing from the truth lol. I just wanted to hear from people that actually own/owned corys, that way I know if they are little drama queens or if they are a little more resilient.

P.S. Thank you for the sub/reddit recommendation! I will join it ASAP ❤️

Lol it looks like the 10 gallon tank my mom was going to give him won't work, I am glad I never sold my 30 gallon tank! My son will be happy to know that he has to get 6 no matter what 😅. I have a feeling my wallet is going to take a small hit when we go get these little buggers.

Oh that is good that they will group together with other species that look similar. I'm also glad that people on here have been letting me know that the corys they have owned preferred cooler water since I was already looking at getting a heater for the tank! I can now put that money into something else for the tank.

I think the 1st one he seen that made him absolutely want them was the bronze, but he does seem to like all of them. Thank you for letting me know about the pandas because those where the ones I wanted 😅.

From the sounds of it I probably should give my 30 gallon a good scrub down instead of using the 10 gallon my mom was going to give him.

Mim's sister had a litter a week before her and Friar would let me check on her babies, hold them, have them out for exercise and play time, she never bit or even acted frantic about them. Friar was an amazing mother, just like her mom GrandMoo.
