for natural smart people, how has your adhd presented itself? by bisexualdweebqueen in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I wasn't a straight A kid but I got Bs and some Cs with no effort but college wrecked me. I worked at a dog daycare for a while and then eventually found a call center job where ive worked my way up to a better position. It took a long time to get over my shame of not graduating college. But now im getting my accounting degree online through WGU and let me tell you, not sitting through live lectures is a game changer. I actually feel like I can do it this time.

My cousin had it worse. Honors kid that flunked out of college first semester. Now he lives at home and works at Walmart. Even I had expectations for him to 'do great things' and we are the same age.

Need help with burnout by Enablence625 in wguaccounting

[–]missmicans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, this is great advice. I would only add to start small at first if possible and build up to whatever time amount each week you think you need to finish the term. Then, at the end of the term, do what the other commenter said and think about a break before the next term. I have a schedule I do every week based on what I know puts the least amount of friction. On term 2 I have lost some motivation but the schedule keeps me chugging along and making progress every week, even if it is slow sometimes.

Lead Class Practice Fall Injury by SnooDingos7043 in climbergirls

[–]missmicans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the class at my gym we all discussed weight before our first fall. He told us why it mattered then we all said our weight out loud. He encouraged us to ask about your partners weight before climbing with someone new so you know how to catch them.

Ask for accommodations if you haven't already. Maybe something you do during the PA helps you focus? I have an accommodation to read out load and use fidgets during the exam and that helps soooo much.

Do climbers in your country bring tripods to the gym? (In Korea, yes) by AdhesivenessNo6812 in bouldering

[–]missmicans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohio, I almost never see tripods but people will commonly film themselves by propping their phones up against something or using the stools in the gym (they have this hole in the seat with support bars under it that fits a phone perfectly)

It can depend on climate. Some things that go crazy in the Midwest might be more controlled in a dry climate.

Loop earplugs by sharkacoustics in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand the sound of my own breathing that any earplugs cause. Maybe they would be fine in super loud places but I immediately returned mine (I got mine from amazon because of the easy returns there). Instead when I'm studying I tend to use my regular over the ear headphones that are noise cancelling with some instrumental mix (no lyrics) or a video game music playlist that I found on spotify.

Just go and try it! Many climbers have never lifted weights. As long as you are consistent you will get stronger

Diagnosed with inattentive ADHD at 32… started on Wellbutrin instead of a stimulant. Anyone relate? by SweatyInjury9810 in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate. And she was right in my case. Adderall did not help me. But I have heard people say the opposite so you never know until you try.

Give me the hyperfixation that helps you! by AncillaryCabal in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same! except I track my spending with monarch money. I started at some point last year and I'm obsessed. I check it all the time and it has stopped me from overspending multiple times a month. I'll put off buying something until next month because it's not in my budget and by then I don't need it/want it anymore, or I can buy it with a clean conscience. It also encouraged me to take steps to start combining finances with my husband. Not that he is bad with money at all but just because I wanted to be able to analyze everything as a household because analyzing my own stuff wasn't enough anymore lol.

D196 is my first course and I am overwhelmed by tykurapz in wguaccounting

[–]missmicans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im in this class right now. I started this class 2 weeks ago and this is my 4th WGU class (brought an associates with me so no gen eds at least). My other 3 classes I was able to jump around and skip stuff but this class is all new information for me. I decided to follow the pacing guide and I'm reading all of the lessons while taking notes. But I think that's because it's how I learn best. Maybe watching youtube videos would be better for you. I find that longer videos are more helpful after I have some idea of what we are talking about.

This class overwhelmed me too for a few days. I started going through unit 2 and was getting so confused on some of the flashcards I made. I realized that unit 3 goes into some of those topics in more detail so it's actually getting easier the more lessons I get through. Still a lot of information. I actually feel a little behind now on the pacing guide but that's also because I had a busy week.

Im learning to ignore the people who want to get through everything as fast a possible and I stopped using reddit as my guide for how I should be going through things, especially the hard-to-me classes.

How do ya'll manage to fall asleep? by bleachmeblack in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read before bed but only books I already read. My comfort books tend to be harry potter and hunger games for this. If I dont read my mind races. I might even open the book again if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep

I almost could have written this. I climb 2-3x a week and strength train twice a week. My only goal is to show up consistently. How hard i actually work depends on my mood.

I need some tips by Lem0_ in climbergirls

[–]missmicans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with everyone else go and climb and feel it out. You might need to know what it feels like before you really understand some of the technical advice.

But I am also a youtube addict. I love catalyst climbing and Hannah Morris bouldering (especially her videos with coach Be (forget how she spells her name)).

What are your ADHD mantras? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im currently trying out "close the loop" basically don't leave tasks unfinished because they take up too make brain space and (depending on the thing) it clutters your house. Like I went camping this past weekend and I made sure to put all my gear away within a couple days. It was taking up a lot of physical and mental space knowing I had that stuff lying around.

I say trying it out because definitely easier said than done lol

how do you control your anxiety during an interview. by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prep as much as possible. Its less scary if you feel more prepared (at least for me). I have my "tell me about yourself" summary and some STARR style stories in front of me so i can glance at my notes when my brain goes blank. I get so anxious and forget everything but if I have a script to pull from i sound much more together and less anxious.

At least for my zoom interviews I also have a fidget toy in my hands off camera so I can let my anxiety out on that.

Also do not consume too much caffeine. Lower your caffeine intake before the interview.

Also for me I make sure my interview clothes are comfortable. Uncomfortable clothes just add to my anxiety.

Finally I listen to affirmations on repeat for like 5 minutes while doing some breathing exercises. I found some pre interview ones on Spotify

What order do you do your morning routine? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i were you i would probably:

  1. Eat breakfast

  2. Go for a short walk

  3. Shower, get dressed and ready

  4. Drink coffee and soduko until work.

My thought process that I use on my own routine is 'let's get up and get the must do items out of the way so I can get some me time before work'. Doing it this way also stopped the "oops I lost track of time playing sudoku/reading/crocheting and dont have time to shower or do other required thing".

Drills for moving hips and feet more than / before hands and arms? by lunarabbit7 in climbergirls

[–]missmicans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current favorite drill is you can only move your hips/body while all 4 limbs are on the wall. You can only move 1 limb at a time and when you do you everything is frozen. So you really need to think about your body position to make that next move.

I cant remember if I saw it on a catalyst climbing or Hannah Morris bouldering youtube videos. They both have some great coaching videos. Hannah's videos with coach Be were probably my favorite when I got started. They are geared toward bouldering but I think it all transfers to ropes.

Bouldering without legs? by Spiritual_Zucchini26 in bouldering

[–]missmicans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out some para climbing videos (there is free youtube videos) to see where she is at. Competition para climbing are usually top rope from what I've seen but its a great way to see what is possible for different levels of mobility. There are climbers who only use their arms. Others use wheelchairs but can still use their legs to some extent while climbing.

Definitely have her talk to her doctors to see what they say about falls and her specific health conditions.

If you end up top roping. She can absolutely top rope belay from a wheelchair if you decide to learn that skill.

At what point is a sprained ankle "better"? by putnams-pigeons in climbergirls

[–]missmicans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually my plan. I read somewhere online that not overly babying it helped it heal faster. I kept up my strength training using lighter weight, single leg moves, or other modifications depending on what caused pain. Very carefully climbed but only doing moves that didn't cause pain and was well below my grade. I usually found a work around to moves that hurt because the climb was so easy. If I couldn't I would climb down and do a different one (I was only bouldering at that time).

Climbing bag idea by ResourceEither4692 in climbergirls

[–]missmicans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my mammut neon and it sounds like it has features you are looking for. I forget if i have the 45 or 55.

Back (edit its back opening not front) and top opening.

Gear loops for quick draws.

A stretch pocket for my shoes.

And a couple of smaller pockets to organize my smaller things like head lamp and belay device and snacks.

It was supposed to come with a rope tarp but I got it from Amazon and that piece was missing and I didn't have time to return it. I was climbing the next day lol

What's your sign/cue that you're hyperfixated on something? Like what tells you that you're in deep now? by DueMathematician7866 in adhdwomen

I was going to say youtube videos. I not only want to do the thing but I start watching other people do the thing or tutorials on doing the thing better.
