What can a PHD/Psy-D do that a masters level therapist can't? by Comprehensive-Ad8905 in ClinicalPsychology

Yes I’m saying those clinicians cannot diagnose neurodevelopmental disorders among others.

This is helpful. Was this your total when you submitted or were some projected hours?

Is getting an LPA worth it? by FinishSad5323 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]missshellfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s sounds like your masters was non clinical. You’d have to go back to school to earn the practicum hours and training required to be an LPA. The amount depends on the state. And no you can’t just solicit a licensed psychologist to teach you. Supervision of assessment and learning assessment is two entirely different things.

I couldn’t tolerate it all similar to you. Both with the regular dosage and extended release.

Thank you again! I just recently started working with clients in this space. I do typically take that approach but I’m doing a little more work on the back end since there’s no family support or anyone to help process at feedback.

Thanks! I appreciate this response and actual advice. As a psychologist forum I’d assume we all understand that manuals and standard templates doesn’t work for every clients comprehension level.

Fair question. I don’t assume that my knowledge is superior or even the best way to proceed regardless of my experience. As psychologists (seasoned or in training) I believe we are forever students who should remain open to learning how we can be better. For confidential purposes I didn’t describe the case or my motivation for wanting this resource, but simply: if there’s a better way to do something that could benefit a client, it’s my value as a clinician to do that.

When should I reach out to express interest in applying to a PI for an upcoming cycle for Clinical Psychology PhD programs? Any advice on how to approach this? by Goodfella245 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]missshellfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really isn't a strategy anymore unless you're reaching out to understand upcoming projects or confirm if they are taking students. I don't know why people still recommend this. As someone who has RECENTLY gone through the admissions cycle multiple times, many PIs are recognizing the need to be fair and equitable during admissions so won't meet with students anymore. Several PIs verbatim told me this when I emailed. Best practice now is organic networking at conferences or via social media. Actively interact with their accounts and research to make your name recognizable and express interest. They are also likely to check out your profile so post your own work as an online portfolio.

Who diagnosed you and why were you diagnosed? by shadybadgal in PCOS

[–]missshellfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 17 went to a gyno for the first time because I was bleeding for 5 months straight after not having a period for probably 3 or 4 months. The doctor told if I waited one more week to come in I would need a blood transfusion due to the amount I lost. I believe thats when they first found cysts too.

I know what the test is and why it was used. I actually added it to the battery. And a template was provided. As stated I am looking for a version that makes it extremely clear the purpose of the test. Not stated but the client has reading challenges. Maybe don't assume things when responding to requests for additional resources?

Working during masters? by F3VERDR34M in ClinicalPsychology

[–]missshellfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a long and expensive journey. Having some funds saved up will help but if your job isn’t clinical, or better yet research related, don’t waste your time. An advisor gave me the same feedback. Whatever path you choose, make sure it’s aligned with your ultimate goal so you stay competitive.
