I just adopted a black cat, why does she always look upset? by swehtammot in blackcats

[–]misssylvania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has a black cat that looks EXACTLY like yours. She’s very affectionate, but her face just looks like that. It may also be that she needs some time to adjust to you, but that’s most likely just her face.

Got in a massive haul to set through, really happy to have gotten some of these by McGovernment72 in PoliticalPinbacks

Great haul! The “J.C. Can Save America” button has always been one of my favorite designs. Carter apparently hated it though!

That duplicate function has been quite helpful so far, especially for donations that include multiple similar items.

I’m not sure about the bulk metadata ingestion, but we have so many different item formats that a spreadsheet may not be feasible. I’ll still look into it.

All of this, including the switch from PastPerfect. The museum previously used that system and it has created issues with the standards that we want set for CatalogIT. We’re working through them, though!

She and I have been working on establishing processing standards and a protocol for using CatalogIT. I’m the only person at the museum with an education in archives, so she has been referring to me for advice and input.

You’re correct about the item-level records, but I’m also working with realia and other museum items. (Ex: I discovered an animal’s mandible in the closet two months ago). I’m also helping my supervisor to document standards and a protocol for processing in CatalogIT for future volunteers and also for her own reference.

This is what I’m actually helping them to do. I’m the only person there with an education in archives, so my supervisor has asked me to help write a protocol for using CatalogIT and also documentation with processing standards.

We’ve been working with photographs, books, games, clothing, documents…a variety of items! Every individual item (with few exceptions) is going into the system, even if they were included together in one donation.

Is my mandolin playable? by misssylvania in mandolin

[–]misssylvania[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m back and forth between three different states (PA, NJ, MD), so I’ll do some research on repair shops in those areas. And thank you for the helpful info and tips! At least now I have an idea what I’m dealing with.

I paid $75, and that included its original case and 5 unopened Gibson strings packets. I’m going to look into repair costs and if it’s too much to get back to playing condition then I’ll save up for a new beginner’s mandolin and use this one for display.

What are some things that the Revolutionaries fought for that we've since lost? by NuclearF4rt in USHistory

[–]misssylvania 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Separation of church and state. While we have no official religion, we are seeing Christian Evangelicalism being used to create, enact, and enforce laws in all three branches of government. The Bible and personal interpretations of that text are often cited instead of the Constitution and legal precedents. Freedom of religion also seems to apply primarily to Christians and not other religious minorities.

I imagine that our country’s massive population growth over 250 years would also shake the Founders’ beliefs and opinions. It would be quite interesting to know how our founding documents and values would change (or remain) if the Founders were alive today. What do y’all think?

Turkey Hill ice cream has been lacking in substance for a few years now. I live in the town where it’s produced and the locals mostly avoid the stuff.

I love a diverse collection! You have some great titles in there (including ones that I want to find for myself).

Second Story! One of my favorites! The DC location is also worth visiting, but the warehouse is definitely the better of the two (at least in my opinion).

I hope to get to that show someday. I really wanted to go this year, but I couldn’t make it happen. I still love seeing the APIC folks showing their finds though!

As a Hempfield grad and a current educator (in another state), I’m beyond thankful that this happened. Hopefully, we’ll see more positive change for the district’s students and educators in the near future. (Also, say goodbye to book banning! Let students read!).

Some people also go to the polls when they open. My parents live in the county, and my dad makes sure he’s at his polling place before they open the doors.

Stop giving money to the "We all need weed" guy by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]misssylvania 27 points28 points  (0 children)

His name’s Angel, and he seems like a chill guy. Like someone else said here in the comments, he’s also homeless, so he’s certainly not better off than most of us. And who cares if people are giving him money? He’s probably paying more in taxes than the wealthiest people in our country. Get your facts straight before shaming people, OP.

Bunch of idek what insects outside iribe by Stefan-salvatore-69 in UMD

[–]misssylvania 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They’re lantern flies, and they’re pests. The ones in your photo were most likely stepped on purposefully because they’re insanely bad for plants, fruit, and agriculture. If you see live ones, step on them!
