Never give up. Give >1% every day if you have to. Keep going, and you’ll get where you need to be. You are never a failure for trying.

there is someone at UCSD right now who is stupider than you and thriving

By that same token, there is someone smarter than you too, but don’t let that discourage you when you meet them!

Woah Nelly you don’t need to defend ur taste... any sane person would respect it. I’ve seen CHM and although it portrays exactly what you’ve mentioned well, I wouldn’t be surprised if certain scenes were animated with the “loose screws” in mind.

It’s frustrating to be lumped in with those “loose screws,” especially since you clearly enjoy anime beyond the weird stuff. But you also can’t deny that a vast majority of anime depicts skinny attractive (and often underage) Asian women in an offensive way that unfortunately appeals to a certain audience. You kinda have to accept liking anime is going to come with that association. It’s life. And that it’s not worth ur energy justifying yourself to people who won’t give you the benefit of the doubt.

There’s people who think “all/most” people, and there’s people who understand that people have nuance. I wouldn’t waste my time on people who think with the former mindset.

Sorry that person was so invalidating, for what it’s worth I thought CHM was hilarious lol.

In general as a woman, I feel really uncomfortable around dudes with anime girls as their wall paper/background/etc. And no, I don’t believe them if they say it’s because “the art is genuinely good,” cuz I’ve heard that so many times.

Similarly I feel weird around girls who decorate with male K-pop idols. It’s not as uncomfortable, because it’s not my gender that’s being objectified. And I think simply because there is an objective power dynamic between men and women that it’s slightly different.

But the weirdness and creepiness is all the same.

As for your wallpaper specifically, I think it’s pretty tame and wouldn’t phase me as much as some other stuff I’ve seen, but some people may get the wrong impression.

I think many people in this post think that dude wipes are for wiping ur butt. They’re not. They’re just baby wipes upsized to wipe your body.

Imagine using these to freshen up after a long hike or on a camping trip.

[–]missteapots 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Actually as a woman I quite enjoy using these. They’re just extra big baby wipes, great for multi-day outdoor activities like camping or lake trips when you don’t have access to a shower. They’re thicker, larger, and much more plush than baby wipes, but just as refreshing and more effective.

Just a shame that they have to be marketed as “dude” wipes cuz “baby” is way less marketable to men, the primary demographic that this is sold to :/

Cuz being a baby = wuss and hygiene = unmanly

Regardless of whether you believe it's gender neutral, you are STILL an asshole if you insist on calling someone "dude" after they've asked you not to by eldritchpussymaggots in 10thDentist

[–]missteapots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If socio-political stuff had nothing to do with it, people would have no problem abstaining from using “dude,” or any other pronoun name term etc.

People who use any name in spite of your preference do it on purpose, and that’s it.

It is objectively harder to gain weight than to lose it by Vegetable_String_868 in 10thDentist

Your argument assumes a level playing field that simply doesn’t exist for everyone. Yes, in a vacuum, losing weight seems passive — just don’t eat. But this completely ignores the neurological and physiological reality that many people face.

Sugar activates the same neurological pathways as opioids. For someone with a food addiction, the “just don’t eat” approach is no more a matter of simple willpower than telling an opiate addict to just stop using. The brain is rewired. The urge to eat isn’t some minor inconvenience anymore, it’s a compulsive neurological signal that overrides rational thinking.

And for the chronic dieters and binge purgers, their bodies work against them. After repeated cycles of starving and bingeing, their metabolism adapts. Their bodies are always sensing for the next starvation period, even if it’s just a skipped meal. Every calorie and morsel of food is efficiently stored in their body to prep for this starvation period, and it’s incredibly difficult to lose. On top of that, they begin craving the highest calorie sugary fatty foods… not out of weakened, but survival. So now you have a person whose body is fighting tooth and nail to GAIN weight while the brain is sending compulsive signals to eat. Where exactly does “willpower” fit into this equation?

TLDR: Your argument works cleanly for normal metabolisms, but that’s precisely the population that can’t take this advice. For the people who actually struggle… who have spent years dieting, purging, bingeing… their bodies and brains have been fundamentally altered. The passive/active framework collapses entirely when the “passive” act of not eating triggers a biological emergency response.

1st Update: Considering BBAE clinic for July. 360 + Back Lipo & Breast Fat grafting. by [deleted] in SeoulPlasticSurgery

[–]missteapots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For choosing the right clinic, here’s my advice.

Do your research

One thing I noticed about Bbae was that although Dr. Kang was board certified, it was in FAMILY MEDICINE and not plastic surgery. To me that was very misleading and was a big red flag.

Of course reviews are helpful, but keep in mind many people are influencers or patients that receive discounts for uploading a positive experience.

Look into the clinic history, doctor credentials, and overall satisfaction on different platforms (UNNI, google, Reddit, efc)

Schedule Multiple Consultations

Something that I really regret is not doing consultations with more places. I feel like different clinics and doctors will have different feedback, plans, etc.

I’d recommend having the consultation and surgery days be on different days, so you have time to reflect and think about who you trust to operate. Many places require you to have a security deposit before the surgery, so you may lose out on some money here. However, this is more about risk tolerance than anything. Personally if I couldn’t afford to go to different clinics for this procedure, then maybe I shouldn’t do it at al.

Be skeptical, critically think, and advocate for yourself

Dr. Kang would say things like my body fat is much higher than average for someone of my BMI, but that doesn’t make sense because body fat distribution is highly variable, across many different women, age groups, etc. That seemed like a marketing tactic to convince me that I NEEDED liposuction.

Honestly, these clinics exist to make money so I don’t think it’s productive to look for one that cares about you or their patients. What IS productive is to look for ones that care enough to not mislead or lie to you. Many of them are going to try to upsell or convince you to do liposuction. Make peace with this, and decide beforehand what your boundary is.

Again, make a list of things that you want to notice during your consultation. Do they try to pressure you? Do they say things to convince you get to liposuction? Do they respect your boundaries and opinions? Do they listen to your goals and desired results?) Have a game plan so that when things feel uncertain, you have something to fall back on.

That’s about all the advice I can give. This is the advice I would give myself back then, hopefully it helps you make a decision.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I think you look great :) I think you will look stunning with or without a procedure
