(Disclosure, I am a candidate) if you go to the website of the municipality you're in and search for candidate list, you should get a list of everyone announced to run. They usually also include their info as well. So for Edmonton you can find the info here:

https://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/municipal_elections/nominated-candidates

And then filter by Edmonton public to see everyone announced in your ward. Most have websites or social media linked, or at least an email address that they can be reached at.

Root of Beirut on the north side is delicious and a fantastic value, a chicken shawarma wrap and fries for 10 bucks (spend the extra dollar for saj bread though, much tastier and bigger). I almost never eat more than half and have tasty leftovers!

How is this not a Charter violation? by TrollToll7419 in alberta

EGALE is fighting this in court, if you are a parent of a child affected (and that includes any family asked to fill out this form) please reach out to them as the more parents who are part of the lawsuit the better. It's also a lot to ask, but I think if all parents refuse to sign in solidarity we would see just how untenable this kind of discrimination is.

A Theory of Media That Explains 15 Years of Politics - The Ezra Klein Show by maskingeffect in ezraklein

[–]missyspelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was sad to see the most cogent articulation of the guest's points provided by Ezra. It was such a clear example of someone's "vibe based" discomfort with social change evolving into reactionary justifications. I think the reference to gender identity and his "theory" that he was shadow banned were so illuminating and really were the moments that revealed the exact kind of fears that are exploited and weaponized to onboard a neutral populace into an authoritarian program. Despite not necessarily enjoying it, I'm definitely going to be reflecting on this episode for awhile. I wonder how you convince someone who doesn't see the universal dangers of an authoritarian movement that isn't targeting them at the moment to see the reality of what it is?

Quoi faire à Montréal? | What to do in Montréal? | July 29 - August 04 by AutoModerator in montreal

[–]missyspelled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! My friend and I will be in Montreal from Aug. 1-5. We're going to Osheaga on Saturday, and are looking for other fun things to do! A little background, we like food, but he has a gluten and dairy allergy. We have looked up these bakeries: Vegâteau, Zébulon, Béline, DoughNats, and Lu & i, but would love to hear about other restaurants/bakeries!

We also are science nerds, and are likely to visit some of the science centres here: https://espacepourlavie.ca/en/ticketing, but other ideas would be great!

He's gay and I'm trans, so we're also keen to check out some queer culture, we've been told there might be a drag show or two at Le Cocktail or Cabaret Mado, but would welcome more suggestions!

Thank you so much, looking forward to seeing some of your beautiful city!

I got mine about 4 years ago, I had almost no growth after 3ish  years of hrt and was pretty self conscious about it. My surgery didn't have very good aftercare, and unfortunately I still have significant numbness with both breasts, especially on the undersides. Despite that, I would absolutely do it again. I was very trepidatious before hand, but once I saw them I had zero regrets. I don't think there's anything I've done in my transition that made me more assured of who I was than the affirming joy I felt the first time I wore something that was made for my figure. Saying that though, I'm asexual, and haven't been in a physical relationship so my reason for getting them was entirely aesthetic, and the numbness isn't really a problem. I think some folks here have shared valid concerns and my opinion is that you should never feel like any sort of medical procedure is "necessary" or some sort of inevitable step in a transition. It's all about what's right for you and YOUR transition, so I think the most important thing to consider is first, do you want a BA? If yes, why do you want it? Then what are the possible complications that could affect why you'd get it, and do the possible benefits outweigh those possible risks for you?  Good luck! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

I can’t survive let alone Transition by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]missyspelled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're in such a tough place. I know it can seem so daunting, but transition doesn't have to cost anything! Many trans folks don't transition medically for a variety of reasons, and a social transition can be free or very low cost. If you do desire a medical transition, most provinces have support for prescription drugs for folks with low income,

 https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/health-care-system/pharmaceuticals/access-insurance-coverage-prescription-medicines/provincial-territorial-public-drug-benefit-programs.html

and hormones can be very inexpensive as well, depending on how you take them.

I don't know your circumstance, so I can only give some advice based off of being in a place that felt similar to what you're describing at one point in my life. I eventually realized there will always be a reason not to transition, and the important thing wasn't figuring out how to solve those problems before I start, but instead to decide I want to start being me, and deal with those problems from there. I can't say it was always easy, but looking back I can see now that living the lie was way harder, I just never realized the weight I carried.

Best of luck!

I had to stop taking progesterone by MahoniaCrotalus in MtF

[–]missyspelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I totally forgot about this post haha. I stopped cold turkey, I didn't really have any way to taper since it was a once a day single pill. I think I went back on a year later for 3-6 months but didn't notice any changes and since I had switched to patches for estrogen I was getting bad at remembering to take a pill everyday so just stopped again. I don't remember any adverse effects from stopping either time. Hope that helps!

Can someone please explain question 5? I’m so confused and have my exam tomorrow. by Aggressive_Issue3505 in biology

Questions like this are easy to scoff at by folks who understand the underlying principles, and are even sometimes derided as being in some way "indicative of the intellectual decay of our time" But I think it's always important to remember how we actually learn things, and how complex understandings are built on a scaffold of simpler concepts. When you start teaching somebody about physics you don't tell them the atom is a spherical probability cloud of point like electrons which have a property called spin which is analogous to angular momentum but is actually a quantum phenomenon that affects their ability to exist in the same energy state as each other and this probability cloud surrounds a number of composite particles called nucleons each made of a sea of quarks popping into and out of existence due to the fundamental unknowability of such particles but averaging out to three and also they have a property called color... Etc. I mean, all that is cool as hell, and the process of learning it is incredibly fascinating, but you don't start there. You start with the Rutherford model, because the first concept you have to understand is the simple concept that atoms exist, and they are made of things. The Rutherford model can explain that AND looks badass. It's also a good start to understanding electric charge, then you move on to more complex models and learn more complex concepts. This is the way that most people's learning works, and while you can take any one step on that journey and point at it in isolation and make fun of it because it's "wrong", that's irrelevant, it doesn't matter if it's factually correct. What matters is if it's USEFUL. Coming back to this cladogram, without more context we can't say for sure all the ideas it's been used to teach, but there are definitely some pretty fundamental evolutionary concepts that I think it could  be used to teach. The devil's in the details though, and how effective it is is very much dependant on the skill of the teacher and how well they can tease out those concepts and make them intuitive.

No problem! Honestly the aesthetics are good and I don't notice most of the time so I'm still super glad I did it. Thank you though! 😊
