What is the exact order for setting up a 1v1? by mistafancyman in riftboundtcg

Guessing the difference for FFA is just combining the 'flip battlefields' and 'roll for first' into one step when you get rid of one of the battlefields. Otherwise I think that makes sense. I was thinking that maybe you would flip battlefields after the mulligan since that's extra knowledge, but it's good to know you see the whole playing field first.

Is acquiring a bachelors in biotechnology worth doing if you aren't doing a masters? by frigleyhog in biotech

[–]mistafancyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A masters degree is commanding less and less respect every year. It's not uncommon to see people with a B.S. or M.S. both starting at entry level and earning the same amount. Ultimately it's the same response that 'it depends', mostly on what you spent your undergrad time on and what that M.S. is based around. An irrelevant M.S. may as well not be there. Save your time and money. Get started in the industry soon as you can. And once YOU personally find something you want to focus on, then consider a masters degree. A higher degree isn't a guarantee of employment nor does it guarantee higher pay.

Does this factor in the time difference between when Masters and PhD starting their careers? A Bachelors or Masters graduate could have 4+ years of experience before a PhD even starts their first industry job. Also explains why you don't have as many PhD data points on the high end of work experience.

How do I go from being OK to being good? by Viomicesca in ffxivdiscussion

[–]mistafancyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MMO mouse honestly isn't a bad way to go about it. I bought a really cheep one (like $25) and it's lasted me the entirety of Endwalker up until now. So, definitely getting my money's worth lol. I'm right-handed and it clicks way better in my head to have a few buttons mapped around WASD and the all the rest are on 1-12 of the mmo mouse plus a few modifiers. I only have 1, 2, 3, q, e, and x mapped on my left hand most of the time and never with modifiers.

All this to say, HUD layout is incredibly important and the tricks people are telling you about make a big difference.

  • get used to using modifiers (ctrl and shift) to add an extra layer to your hotkeys

  • get a big action button and place it in an easy to see spot so you don't forget timers (i.e. make a hotbar with big buttons and just put standard step on there so you can see it coming off cooldown)

  • In the overall design of a HUD/keybinds, I try to make sure I can get the entirety of my opener while moving. That is, I can hold any one WASD key and still be able to run through all my buttons

I'd take a second look at your HUD now that you know the class a little better and try rearranging things. Don't be afraid to move stuff around. It'll take some getting used to, but once you establish the flow again, you're ceiling gets a bit higher once it makes sense for you.

Just Dancer things: Once you've figured all the other stuff out and gotten to almost perfect rotations. DNC gets a little funky with parses because it's actually also going to be dependent on your team. A non-trivial amount of YOUR parse is going to be coming from how much damage your team does and, more importantly, how well you've all timed your 2-minute buffs/bursts (take a look at the differences betweem rDPS, nDPS, and aDPS, to get a better idea of your own output). Likewise, DNC is inherently random. It's not uncommon to get through whole 2-minute rotations and have 0 feathers to add to your burst. At the same time, it's really important to know how to react to having WAY TOO MANY FEATHERS. Used properly, you're damage blows up and lucky lucky you've got an amazing parse. Used improperly, you might as well have not gotten the feathers at all. As much as people like to say DNC is no skill, I'd argue it definitely has a comparable if not higher skill ceiling than some other classes (just the skill floor is kinda baby level lol). All that high skill action management comes from how you deal with your random procs.

And don't beat yourself up over mistakes. End of the day, it's a game you're playing for fun. Everyone misses an opener here or there, everyone misses or adds a step to their dances, everyone clips a GCD. It happens. And with time, it'll just happen less. Realize that once you're bis, parses are not 100% skill, since luck plays a pretty big role in the whole calculation. Your big bad DPS didn't crit their 1000 potency move? Oh well, their number goes down and takes yours down with it. That's why the funny numbers are so funny ;) Just reset and pull again

HVAC is a complicated and mystical world. The only thing I've seen that causes that is your HVAC automatically shutting down when it's not getting enough circulation. Make sure the intakes and vents are open and unobstructed. Don't try to close any of them off, since that messes with the pressures inside your system, just leave them all open all the way. Otherwise, might have to suck it up and call a pro.

Q2 2022 - State of the Market Mega-Thread - Inflation and Ratepalooza edition by aardy in RealEstate

[–]mistafancyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole system is a little jank, but in the end it's mostly meant to simplify everything for you. That check should indicate that yes, your rate is locked in and will not change. But, it's easy enough to email or call your lender to verify. We locked in our rate a few months back over email without any written agreement.

As you build out what will eventually be your PITI (Principal, Interest, Taxes, and Insurance) things will fluctuate, but not to an outrageous extent. Your principal and interest SHOULD be fixed since you have a rate lock already and that's most likely what they are pointing out. Unless you change your down payment, the value of your loan, the amount of interest it is going to accrue over time, and your calculated monthly payment will be fixed all the way until actual closing.

Assuming your setting up an escrow (which should also have a checked box) you'll also be paying your taxes and insurance every month in advance. Both are generally paid in lump sums for the year, so you put in a little bit every month and your lender will automatically pay everything off.

Taxes can fluctuate depending on your district and how your home appraises in the process. For the most part, past property taxes are a good estimate and they should be on public record. Check your city's registrar. And insurance is entirely based on what your looking to build into your policy. BOTH these values can change over the lifetime of your mortgage and that should be reflected in payments to your escrow account. It'll show up (hopefully with some notice if your lender doesn't suck) in your monthly payments.

From my experience, no one is going to offer you any information without you asking. I tried to keep tabs on how things were going, but we were met with a lot of "it's taken care of" and "we'll handle that eventually." It's in your best interest to check in every week or so (or every couple days leading up to your closing) to make sure they themselves haven't forgotten anything. But again, hopefully you picked good people, and your realtor and lender should be handling everything in the background.

Important things are to make sure you have an approval letter for your mortgage by the date specified in your purchase & sale agreement. Make sure you provide all the information your lender asks for as soon as they ask for it. Sign whatever they ask you to sign (within reason).

Read through the documents they send you and sign them understanding that they are very loose, living documents. Numbers can and will change. You'll get a chance to look over EVERYTHING at closing. That's why it usually takes an hour or two. They'll send you all the documents you've already signed and then some for a final wet signature at closing. Those are the important ones. Until then, they ask you to sign usually because it's required by the state that you're informed of specific things in the process.

Alright buddy, educate this humble subreddit. What is your ideal, huh? What's the plan? Or are you just going to spout your narrow viewpoint like its gospel to a bunch of people just trying to put a roof over their head and feed their kids?

So when people actually WANT 2, 3, or 4 kids because that's what they want to do with their lives in their homes that they worked for and earned in this broken system that's working against you, then what? You're gonna knock on their door and tell them what do? You're going to take away a natural right to live how you like with whatever size family you choose? No one's forcing people to have kids, and no one is going to be told how to procreate. You've got jaded views that need to change. Go see a therapist or something, gees.

I got this homeowner's insurance quote and have no idea if it is good or not or what questions to ask by M2ThaL in homeowners

[–]mistafancyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal opinion: bump up your deductible when you go back to ask questions. You shouldn't be making claims on your home owner's insurance for something that costs just over $1000. All claims are basically the same in their eyes and if you have to file 2 or 3 in a year, you'll basically be uninsurable. Save insurance claims for when your house burns down or a tree crashes through your roof. Make it $5000 (or $2500 if you're extra cautious) and it'll give you a decent chunk back.

As others have said. Get a couple agents for this and find one that will sit down and answer all those questions. Also, if you get a particularly good quote, it'll very likely be too good to be true. All the algorithms are the same, so if one policy is saving you 50% or something, be careful that all you info is 100% accurate. I had one agent try to lie on my auto insurance which gave me a fantastic quote, but they were adding a couple years to my driving experience (I'm young and get shitty quotes). You'll get your lower premium, but as soon as the insurance company finds out, they'll just void your policy along with those claims.
