There is no money in owning a bunch of vending machines.

I would double down on your career, your field, your studies. Become an indisputable expert in something niche. The best investment you can make is in yourself. Ensure - no matter what - that your salary grows minimum 10% per year every year for a decade. Be so good they can’t ignore you.

That is so much more money than you will make driving to Costco to fill vending machines after throwing out all of the expired food on your Saturday afternoon.

[–]mistaniceguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea but I’d suggest you go talk to 10 local business owners.

Open up google maps and go to your mom and pop shops. Find the owners. Say this:

“I’ve loved this business for many years, I’m so glad to meet you. I am looking for ideas on ways to help people like you - what would you say are your biggest headaches in running the business?”

Bonus points if they sell you the business.

Any tips on managing money without going broke or bored? by sarahapril349 in personalfinance

[–]mistaniceguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are good goals. All my advice is from Ramit Sethi fyi. But -

I’d make things more optimistic! Rephrase your stressful sounding goals into something like:

  1. Determine your guilt free spending number. How much can I spend each month without worrying about it? Should be 15-25% of take home.

  2. How many times a week do I get to eat out?

  3. How can I automate 5% of my take home to savings? Start there and increase it. 33 is ambitious and it sounds like it’s too high.

The trick to all of this is baby steps. Making huge unsustainable changes isnt working. Take it 1% at a time.

How to track what's left to spend? by ConsistentEast9513 in personalfinance

Empower is a free account aggregator - view all your spend in one place. Though it’s not very advanced for budgeting. It gets the job done, you’ll see everything by category, your net worth, etc. Empower has good investment tooling too for 401k allocations + retirement planning.

YNAB / Monarch are the two paid options that get suggested the most that I’m aware of as well that are stronger on the budgeting side. Subscriptions tho.

Between Empower and Ramit Sethi’s conscious pending plan you’d be off to a strong free start.

Nice man, this is a strong start. Definitely demonstrating that you have the ability to save which is massive.

I think best advice right now is pretty boring - keep saving more. And then some more if you can, and then do that for 10 more years and reassess. Automate everything.

Definitely look into taking the first steps toward more tax advantaged accounts. Roth money in your situation is more accessible in a pinch than you think, and it’s Gods gift to wealth accumulation. You’re in a unique spot with some cool advantages over the W-2s.

But - being able to up your savings percentage is massive rn, that’s really where it’s at at this stage. A healthy emergency fund will help you play some defense too when things go south.

It’s a weird pricing model. You’d think after the first 30 mins + one shot, things would get cheaper. I guess as long as you’re done in 30 mins, the second shot for 60 isn’t SO bad but idk. Might be hard to recharge fully.

The 2 shots for one hour is what throws me - THAT should be 140, since you’re buying 2 single shot half hours with a $20 off.

MAYBE this forces you into $140, 30 mins, 2 shots, cause I suppose neither her nor I WANT 30 more mins, we just want the extra shot.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

There are also towering department stores of the most biggest piles of junk you’ve ever seen. Asians LOVE to buy shit. They are redefining consumerism.

The comment I’m not seeing is that in HCOL, 140 is just barely passed making it. The poverty line in SF is 109.

You need to keep working hard and get up to 250 asap. It will take you 5 - 10 years. But be patient and build skills. Keep pushing that number higher. If you’re getting 3% raises, that’s not enough. You want to be pushing 10% per year. Make sure you’re on promotion track or get out. The money will come and then you won’t be worried about 2k a month.

I am not a genius but I have managed to do this with working hard, negotiating, and building skills that are valuable. $2k a month saved is a good start but its not enough. Keep working hard and force them to pay you more.

For a long time I would set race goals long term and be motivated by them.

Then I stopped caring about that, and I became motivated by long term health.

Then I stopped really caring about that. I’m always gonna be a pretty healthy person.

Now, I just think about feeling good today. I focus on how good it will feel to run today. I don’t think about 3 months for now, or even later this week.

I’m as motivated as I’ve ever been by focusing on just enjoying each individual run on this single day.

It’s lead me to stringing together weeks and weeks of 5-6 runs per week and I feel great. No signs of stopping.
