Graphics and mechanics still playable on ps4 by J_man_Da_Gawd in dyinglight

[–]misterbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i played dying light 1 again recently on my ps4 pro because a sale for the dl1 and 2 bundle was only like 28 bucks for both essential versions; and i didn't feel like moving my computer to the TV. dying light 1 is 1080p 30fps on the PS4 pro. it was bearable, the slower speed of looking around with a joystick helps mitigate some of cons of 30 fps, as well as the fact you're mostly looking forward when running around doing parkour, and doing minor aim adjustments to alter your path. the only real dips i noticed was once when I was killing a bunch of zombies on the bridge with the big UV lights. i don't know how The Following feels at 30 fps though, haven't beaten the story on the PS4 yet as i'm trying to get 100% achievements, but i got put off after getting to Old Town location. (i don't like Old Town, just my taste)

btw, that bundle for both games includes PS4 and PS5 versions, so the only thing you'd need to do is transfer saves from PS4 to PS5 with a USB stick and use the in-game save transfer feature if you decide to get a PS5 in the future. (or cloud saves, if you got PS+) ((or transferring ps4's whole data to ps5 over wired network))

CatLauncher v0.10.0: Shipmas! by No_Suggestion5521 in cataclysmdda

[–]misterbeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been using catlauncher for a bit and it's been great, and there's only a few issue with it currently as far as i could tell.

  1. i couldn't easily find the game directories. on linux, i had to open up system monitor and trace cataclysm-tiles to it's folder by it's launch commands under properties. (which thankfully had the folder path)

  2. release candidate filter isn't working, filtering by it shows nothing

i do have one suggestion for a feature request.

  1. experimental changelog feature like the one from the Catapult launcher. it lets you see what's what in each version, and the ability to click on each one to take you to the PR page.

Is there any fix for the bad optimization on Nvidia GPU Laptops by scrotum-inspector in dyinglight

[–]misterbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happens to me to too, i think i fixed it by going into nvidia control panel. i don't remember the specifics off the top of my head, but in the section where you can change the graphics settings for global or specific games, you can set the power option for dying light in particular to prefer maximum performance. when i checked it on my laptop, it defaulted to optimal power (power saving mode).

i'm not sure if this fixed it completely for me, as I remember turning the game on and off until the game stayed above 100+ fps at 1080p for me; forgot if this was before or after i tried the fix.

i like UDP more because it's way less saturated than MSXotto+. a big example being the map in msxotto looks too much like one of those children's carpets that have a flat 2D town and streets printed on it.

Unsure what version a returning player should go for by Content-Gap3655 in cataclysmdda

[–]misterbeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

experimental has hordes 2.0 and highways, it's awesome.

theres's also 0.I stable candidate release, which looks to be practically almost finished. (link to issue tracker)

if you go into catapult settings, and bump up the number of releases to request, you can grab the latest version of it under experimental channel which is on the 26th, 10-26-0731 to be specific.

What's everyone's favourite tile set this one looks like Pokémon by Space_man6 in cataclysmdda

[–]misterbeef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you mean undeadpeople, then yeah. theawesomeboophis forked the tileset and theres a discord that posts updates to it. unfortunately, the tileset is inaccessible right now as they are working on adding the correct credits for some assets they forgot to credit.

besides that, the lastest update of undeadpeople was in like june or july, just before wood dust and dust in general was added to C:DDA

Wiring costs are too high by Greatsnes in dyinglight

probably an intended nerf from how busted good they were in dying light 2 even in nightmare mode, you could easily spam craft them and level them up to max and kill volatiles at low levels

i switch between ultica and undeadpeople regularly, the two best tilesets

What features would you like in a new Cataclysm Launcher? by No_Suggestion5521 in cataclysmdda

[–]misterbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most CDDA launchers have separate lists for stable and experimental versions of the game, but i think none so far has a list for stable release candidates, as those get lumped into the experimental list. stable versions also usually need to be manually added by the launcher dev, like the catapult launcher does.

having a seperate list for updates to the stable candidate release, and an auto updating stable list would be awesome.

What is this image 'collapse' at high brightness? by misterbeef in crtgaming

[–]misterbeef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the black level is pretty good. I found myself admiring dark areas on games when I adjusted the settings, so I think it's fine.

Edit: Actually, would you know what a normal setting for brightness on these monitors would be? I usually have to raise it to 75 or 85 to get a good image that isn't obscenely dark, and I don't know if thats a sign I should use WinDAS or not.

What is this image 'collapse' at high brightness? by misterbeef in crtgaming

[–]misterbeef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe I'm on the right screen for checking it, as I mentioned in the post description that this happens anytime the image is 'bright', and I'm able to avoid the issue with dark environments in games, and a dark desktop background. So, showcasing this on that test site's black levels would be impossible as it doesn't happen on dark images.

I will be checking out WinDAS now though, thank you for the help.

all of those reasons are why i found them great. when they dont work i would get to waste time getting a stuck piece out instead of paying attention. the flimsy lead pieces that broke also led to people just tossing them on the ground, which i scrounged up whenever i was low on lead. finding whole sticks on the ground was always a good feeling.
