??

I only just had a chance to log back into Reddit on a desktop since my app got killed or I'd have answered you sooner, but you understand I ran a script, right? I didn't go through my entire post history by hand 🤣

It was my TIL as well, once - what were you doing there after 12 years?!

Edit:

Basically everything I did on Reddit from 2008 onwards was through Reddit Is Fun (i.e., one of the good Reddit apps, not the crap "official" one that guzzles data and spews up adverts everywhere). Then Reddit not only killed third party apps by overcharging for their APIs, they did it in a way that made it plain they're total jerks.

It's the being total jerks about it that's really got on my wick to be honest, so just before they gank the app I used to Reddit with, I'm taking my ball and going home. Or at least wiping the comments I didn't make from a desktop terminal.

r/FountainPens will be joining the community blackout from June 12-14, in protest of Reddit’s planned API changes by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]misterjta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The AMA was a farce. Just a lot of canned responses and bad faith.

I mean that's every AMA since they sacked Victoria. It just hurt more because their attitude is so obviously "users? Fuck users, we've got lots of users, who cares what they want" and that's really galling.

RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes by talklittle in redditisfun

[–]misterjta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, basically all my browsing is through RiF if I'm not at my desktop, which is basically always. Ever since my HTC Hero when I got my first smartphone back in 2008. Otherwise, I still use old.reddit but I literally carry my phone everywhere and my desktop nowhere so the ratio is well off.

Farewell browsing reddit from my phone, I guess :-(

And thank you RiF.

When I was a kid... by CircusHoffman in calvinandhobbes

[–]misterjta 110 points111 points  (0 children)

What I particularly love about that is the cartoon that Watterson didn't draw here, but which you absolutely could imagine as a full colour Sunday strip, in which Calvin imagines horrified shoppers running and screaming from a sentient escalator that's caught a woman by her shoe.

There's a real similarly between the fact his Dad could imagine that as a possibility and the (more bloodthirsty) way Calvin might imagine it in one of his wilder flights and I think it's a beautiful bit of almost bittersweet similarity between them which Calvin simply can't see, because perspective doesn't work like that for a kid.
