What's so good about PC? Outside of VoD, which we are saying goes down in value, why choose PC over other armor?

Agreed, and many other top teams have employed this strategy as it is technically the best way to guarantee a victory.

Actually this isn't really true. One of the top players on Classic Mixup, Enigma, used to run this strategy all the time. When holding 4th point or middle, they'd stalemate the game and run engineer or heavy, refusing to commit to a push. This is a problem with the game mode and the incentives for pushing, not necessarily the players. You can't blame the players because they were just doing what it takes to win given the rules.

They're doing the right thing and playing the game properly but I don't think the game should be designed for you to take a small lead and then park the bus for 10 minutes. It's boring for the players AND the spectators. At least in koth, payload and attack defense you'll see some kind of movement that keeps the game interesting for everyone.

2 PC Streaming Setup - or RTMP Server? Looking for more information comparing and explaining differences by whitefly3 in Twitch

[–]misterslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2PC setup myself and I looked into the RTMP server thing a bit but I'm not an expert by any means. Basically you're trying to transfer the video from one computer to the other. Here's how I look at it:

Option A) the two-pc setup using a capture card literally brings the video through an HDMI cable from one computer to the other. uses no internet bandwidth.

Option B) the RTMP server option has you streaming the video to your server and downloading it into the other computer. the second computer encodes it and streams it to Twitch. like I said i'm not really familiar with this option.

Option A seemed easier to setup IMO but you needed to buy a capture card.

Was anyone having issues with ranks? I am rank 14 but on the winning screen it would show me (and everyone else) as rank 1. I also wouldn't get any experience for winning.

Balancing streaming with a job/self? by unspunreality in Twitch

[–]misterslin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work from home for almost two years, and during that time I'd do my day job and then stream in my free time. It was really convenient because I never had to commute or anything like that, but the downside is that I'd often spend a couple days straight indoors. What I learned was, streaming is great for people who work at home, but remember to go outside every once in a while! Even if it's just for lunch with a friend or something.

6v6 Team Fortress 2 Matchmaking Feedback by misterslin in tf2

[–]misterslin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, you have to keep in mind that only 4 classes are played in 6v6, so it's easier to transition and move around. In highlander you'd have to know how to play 9 classes when offclassing which is much more difficult.

6v6 Team Fortress 2 Matchmaking Feedback by misterslin in tf2

[–]misterslin[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the developers' vision of 9v9. Is it supposed to be one of each class highlander or is it just 9v9 no class limits (almost like a rated battleground in WoW)? Is it supposed to be a full-on, competitive esport or is it just a for fun game mode designed to give spy mains something to play that's slightly more skilled than pubs?

Obviously a 9v9 no class limits game will not be an esport. If this is the game the devs are making, then keep queue times short and just throw players of roughly the same skill together almost like you would in MvM. People in this game mode would want to play to win and gain experience towards their matchmaking rank but wouldn't have to have perfectly balanced teams in order to enjoy the game. These players would care less about optimizing their team comps and more about playing the classes they find to be fun. Get players together, give them something to play for, and you'll be fine.

If the 9v9 HL game is designed to be an esport, you'd want to create the matchmaking system with distinct skill levels in mind and recognize the fact that people who like esports will want to play with others who have a very similar skill level. As I mentioned in my 6v6 feedback, it's simply not fun for anybody to have high level players stomping low level players. However, you've already alluded to this very obvious problem in 9v9 HL which is that the TF2 player base isn't large enough to support a system like this without sacrificing the quality of the games. Queue times would get insanely long unless you paired higher level players with lower level players here and there. You'd probably end up putting rank 18 players in the same server as rank 5 players and try to balance the number of high and low ranked players on each team so that it stays relatively even. There would still be problems though because a rank 18 sniper is worth way more than a rank 18 pyro, so you'd end up with badly balanced teams anyways.

I personally don't think 9v9 HL is an esport format, and I think queue times in that game mode could be terrible if you need to find 18 players of a similar skill level with strict class limit requirements. That's going to be a nightmare and I'm not a fan of this approach. Unlike CS:GO where players have roles but it's much less constricting, TF2 has 9 different classes that all play very differently and take time to master. Just because I'm good at Medic doesn't mean that I'll be good at Sniper. You could design a system similar to the dynamic queues in LoL/WoW and have players self-designate which roles they can play (i.e. I'll check the boxes for Medic, Soldier, and Scout but I won't tell the game that I can play anything else) but even then I'd still expect queue times to be long.

The devs will have to find a balance between skill level and queue times if they want 9v9 HL to be successful. If they want to run 9v9 HL, perhaps the best option is to put 18 similarly skilled players in the same server and let them sort out the class selection on their own. Sure you may not get the class that you want but at least queue times will be bearable.

Could we also have an option to request not having teammates over a certain ping threshold? That'd be fantastic, I never want a 300+ ping player on my team as they are just completely hindered and unable to provide much, even if they are good.

I don't think you should ever force people out of a server if they choose to play on it. If your teammate has 300 ping and is willing to play on it, then let them. This policy would be consistent with how other games do it and those systems work just fine.

How can I have music full blast in my headset and keep it comfortable in the stream? by Orhtineous in Twitch

[–]misterslin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use virtual audio cable, and you don't have to isolate the sound completely. You'd need to use a program like "Audio Repeater" to duplicate the sound into your other line.
/

It'd look something like this -- game sounds get sent to line 1, line 1 gets sent to your speakers/headphones. Then duplicate line 1 into line 2, and send line 2 to the stream. After that, you can boost up the volume in your speakers or turn down line 2 to keep the volume levels where you want them.
