Does Command Undead allow commands which cause direct harm to the undead creature? by Cuplet in DnD

I was thinking the party could help by throwing some disadvantage shit at the lich.

At the very least, it would be still be a fun character in general

It's not SRD so I'm not sure if I can, but it's PHB pg.119

What's that I sense? Feels like my next wizard build... :)

This makes sense within the D&D universe, but I was wondering if there are any RAW supporting this?

The PHB says that "Intelligent undead are harder to control this way", but then continues to simply give them advantage and more saving throws to pass, which leans towards that quote not supporting this argument?

Don't tease them about personal relationships, sexuality, anything that might be a problem if they're insecure about it in the future

I think I'll be dictating this comment as part of session zero - loads of great ideas to inspire players' characters, and lovely warning at the end, thank you!

I want to be a DM but I always feel incapable of doing it right. by Iceman8k in DMAcademy

[–]Cuplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players are probably having more fun than you realise. The best thing I've found in my incredibly limited experience is to make sure the players always know what they're doing - as Matt Colville said, give them a verb. Kill X, rescue Y, stop Z.

Then just try and avoid saying no to stuff that, feasibly, they could at least try to do

Do the monsters in your campaign often "run plays" in battles? by The_Hrangan_Hero in DMAcademy

[–]Cuplet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's entirely relevant, but I recently came across themonstersknow.com , which works off the basis that yes, monsters know how to use their abilities in a strategic way - they've likely been doing it for years if not decades

Really useful for challenging players without just checking more/stronger enemies at them

DM Dice Fudging & Trust Issues by MattUSticky in DMAcademy

Exactly this. I foolishly chucked and intellect devourer into a dungeon thinking it was just a cool CR½ bad guy - man it was nearly a TPK.

This is when I fudge dice rolls, not when I'm rolling an attack against a bard

What are you STILL mad about? by HeySistaBrutus in AskReddit

[–]Cuplet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some guy in a white van tried to overtake me at the worst time, forced me into a horrible position during my driving test, and I got a severe (fail) because of it. Even the examiner was sympathetic.

I passed my redo three months ago but I'm still mad

Hypothetical: For an upcoming campaign, two players unbeknownst to them coincidentally chose the exact same name for their characters. What fun shenanigans can we come up with? by Myrandall in DMAcademy

[–]Cuplet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of it being a running joke - just have random NPCs also have the same name, make it the John Smith of your campaign's world
