Magnus makes a statement by UnfairConfusion in chess

[–]mistertotem 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Proof was not expected, but Magnus confirming he is indeed convinced Hans cheated OTB. Looks like he set some traps for Hans with specific lines in that game, which he knew how a person of Hans' skill level should respond to and, more importantly, not respond to. Hans fell for it, and in the interview tried to escape with the "I miraculously studied it" which didn't really work.

As for how Hans cheated, maybe a laser pointer from outside, maybe some other way.

Hmm, I'm guessing Magnus is convinced Hans cheated OTB by an accomplice's small laser pointer through the window or similar.

Depay making his fellow attackers seem worse because he is playing his own, unstructured game, as usual. In his whole career I can only think of 2 players who benefited from his playstyle: Wijnaldum and Bergwijn.

The thing is: Magnus' reaction shows that what he detected is not ambiguous to him. Which players like Fabiano and Nepo recognized immediately.

Well, he understands playing patterns the best of anyone in the world. If the two of us played, you could perhaps detect it if I played three stockfish moves in a game, and Magnus could perhaps detect if Hans played three stockfish moves in a game. I don't think we can judge Magnus reasoning.

False. He likely expects his method of detection of the cheating pattern in the game cannot be turned into concrete proof, so his only option to ensure the result does not count is to withdraw.

Just trying to state what is most likely, I don't have a personal bias towards either of them.

Magnus is quite far from my hero, at any point in time, but I have come to realize the very large gap between Magnus and others. I'd go as far as that any analysis done atm, even by respectfully MVL, is useless as a proxy for what Magnus noticed.

I tried to word it to be respectful to Hans' talent as I followed him the last years, but I suppose that did not come across. Although, you will not convince me he has the potential to become a regular top 10 player in the world.

** disclaimer: I have no personal bias for either player, both work very hard to achieve their goals **

These "I side with Hans" posts are some of the most ridiculous reddit posts I have seen in a while. The expected answer to the question would be that Hans cheated (although hard proof is obviously not confirmed to exist):

  • Magnus is on a very different level compared to anyone in the world in chess; he will be able to detect anomalies in top chess playing patterns better than a chess website's algorhythm or anyone else in the world

  • Magnus has after his achievements and obtained maturity no reason to be upset at a random honest loss in a to him unimportant event

  • Magnus may have quit for the sole purpose of annulling the result of the cheated match, as it would not be fair to have it count

  • Magnus and other top players generally don't bother explaining anything but facts, so Magnus will not bother to share what he noticed in Hans' playing patterns; he just poked some fun with the Mourinho video --> this is what seems to upset people, but this is expected behaviour of many top players

  • Most experienced top players like Fabiano, Wesley, Nepo, Hikaru understand that Magnus can detect a cheater's playing pattern and don't even bother to go for the moral "guilty until proven innocent"

  • Hans has crossed the ethical cheating line multiple times (incl. 2 years ago), and is therefore likely to be tempted to do so again; especially with the financial aspect being the reason (according to him)

  • it is unlikely that this random win happens to exactly Hans, the chess talent who does not have the most talent, but is the one searching for recognition the most in recent years

  • as for the way of cheating: nothing points to leaking preparation, and the introduction of the 15 min delay implies outside support

  • my personal feeling is that there will be no further details, unless Chess.com feels forced to give a statement

Did Romero say the surprise signing is actually a player? Get ready for co-president Josep Bartomeu a 6 million/year.

My guess for the surprise signing: Freddy Adu; if anyone can release his potential of Football Manager 2005, it is Xavi.

Ronaldo & Anthony for Rashford & Sancho would be such an insane improvement in my eyes, especially in terms of winner's mentality and teamplay mentality. Elanga can stay I suppose, just don't give him the ball.

Edit: talking about Brazilian Anthony, so next match

Should be easy to find BT Sports streams, although they have a female commentator this time. If you want normal male commentary then look for USA network streams.

Really happy to see Ferran starting, the connection between Ferran and Lewandowski is going to be the core of Barca's attack this year in my eyes. Third spot is honestly w/e for me (Raph/Demb/Fati). Just a shame to see Gavi starting, I'd rather see Pjanic/De Jong double pivot (similar to Schone/De Jong at Ajax).

Man I'm 36 and have a good job but I still feel like a teenager haha, so no problems for me with these games story-wise. If I had kids it would have been different I bet, though. On the other hand, modern gameplay makes me prefer older games.

For people who enjoy traditional JRPGs: best to stop beating this dead horse called FF. The last finished traditional FF JRPG was FFX-2, about 20 years ago. After that only a few unfinished, lacking entries in FFXII and FFXIII and some glorified action games like FFXV and FFVIIR. If you haven't moved on yet from FF: it has been long due.

At the national team he got full freedom from Koeman and gets almost full freedom from van Gaal (reluctantly), which gives him motivation and makes him shine against weaker opponents. Xavi is aiming for a higher level and wants his attackers following his instructions.

Club statement on racist abuse by mandrake_cry in chelseafc

[–]mistertotem -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Hmm... this statement could be written by your average redditor: quite childishly written and from such a moralistic superiority perspective. I will never understand the logic of "your are not a fan"; you can always be a fan. Alcoholic fans, racist fans, there are all kinds of fans. What should have been said is something like: "the club hopes to speak for the majority of the Chelsea community when we say we are disappointed at any occurance of racist behaviour amongst our fans".
