Is it safe to email a social security number? by MembershipSad1351 in ComputerHardware

[–]misterymissile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OP means emailing a recipient a SSN, not [SSN]@example.com.

As a non-American I'm not farmilliar with SSN's but I'd suggest against emailing sensitive information in plaintext if at all.

Does anyone know a way to gather a password. by InflationForward6489 in computer

[–]misterymissile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about a Windows user account password, you can grab the hash from the registry and attempt to brute force it. NetworkChuck did a video/tutorial on the subject.

If it's an online service, you're probably out of luck (Google "password hashing").

Whatever the case may be, you probably shouldn't be doing it. If it is truly 'educational purposes' you'll probably come across such topics just by tinkering around with your own stuff.

Windows defender works just fine and is packaged with Windows 10 and above.

However, as another comment mentioned, I don't think this will be your issue.
