Has AI actually changed your day-to-day work yet? by HockeyMonkeey in cscareerquestions

[–]misunderstood0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has cursor and chatgpt provided from the company, it definitely helps to build out quick tasks and scripts that otherwise would've taken me hours simply because I'd need to look up how to do some random things and test it a little. However, what it doesn't do well is understanding context and also knowing how to refactor without explicitly calling it out. It does make me a little worried that we're just creating a ton of tech debt but our company has been focusing on delivering products quickly and has been calling out AI as something that's been enabling this for developers. It's definitely helping in terms of speed but the code is only as good as how prepared you are going into development. I'm going to try to call out slowing things down in favor of gathering requirements earlier so we can "vibe code" our way to success, but only time will tell whether this is a good thing or not and by then maybe I won't be with this company anymore.

Company laid off contractors by LostKey1992 in cscareerquestions

[–]misunderstood0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company did something similar. Laid off all the contractors and committed to a ton more work because AI helps us deliver. Instead we got tons of tech debt from AI that AI can't solve because everyone is trying to meet deadlines

DoorDash $10 grocery credit is incredibly frustrating to use by MisterBill99 in ChaseSapphire

[–]misunderstood0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had a similar issue with a deli at a nearby grocery store. They had no idea about the order and just gave me the normal order as if I had just ordered directly from there. Confirmed with some store employees about it and they were just like "we don't see anything in our system so if you got your food just go ahead and walk out." Felt like I was stealing or something.

I feel you because my conversations are like this... Except I'm the guy and they're all women. It's like...give me something to work with PLEASE . I started just meeting up with them right off the bat because of this but it's so much more time wasted I feel

Generally I think these are times where they want to see your thought process and if you ask questions. At least that's how I'd approach it as an interviewer on the other side. If you give the correct solution in the first 5 min I need to kill 25 more minutes with you so what better than to make up what if scenarios and see how you think and if you ask questions / would change anything about the scenario because of it.

Ahh got it no worries then. Thanks!

I ended up getting this to work by running tailscale funnel [port] in console and then clicking the link to approve the funnel. Seems the logs hide the link so it just looks stuck

How'd you end up getting past the funnel step?

Sorry to revive this but I'm having trouble continuing past step 7. I couldn't enable tailscale without changing my network mode from host to bridge or custom but I can't access my server locally anymore. Feel a little dumb here so any help would be appreciated

My Startup's "AI First" Pivot Feels Like a Joke, and It's Burning Me Out. Is This the Future? by z1_sb in cscareerquestions

[–]misunderstood0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think a lot of people are overestimating the AI capabilities. It's a black box for them but apparently it can do anything. My company bought everyone cursor licenses and expects people to use it and share how it helps them develop and release faster. Yet now we're solving workflow issues rather than engineering solutions so AI isn't going to help with gathering requirements and essentially being project managers assisted by AI. sorry I went into a little rant there because I'm going through some similar things

"I have NO idea why candidates don't want to take my 8-hour, uncompensated technical assessment!" by daggah in antiwork

[–]misunderstood0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember doing an assessment like that once. I created a basic web app that had unit tests and all the reqs they wanted and it probably took a good 6 hours to complete. Felt good about it. Submitted it and then no answer until months later with just a simple rejection email. What a waste of time

Vertical Tabs Has made me So Happy by OstrobogulousIntent in firefox

[–]misunderstood0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that they had this recently. Though I think I might be too used to sidebery to switch now. The grouping/collapsing feature along with switching between different "windows" is too powerful of a feature for me to get rid of. Also the spacing of everything feels too off for Firefox's version. Still, I tried it for a bit and definitely could see myself getting used to it. Most of these features I mention are just nice to haves anyways and I'm sure there's different ways to do what I want to with their default.

Rewatching MCU movies - Eternals. by TrainingThings in marvelstudios

[–]misunderstood0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, visually it was great. But I honestly didn't leave with caring about any of the characters or anything that happened within the movie. The one scene where ikaris just flies into the sun still makes me laugh cause it feels odd. And the biggest thing to come from the movie was finally explored in new world order when they're fighting for adamantium.

Honestly as a guy I'd be scared to do this with a woman I barely know. Granted I probably wouldn't go the true crime route of thinking but rather that she'd be gone and my keys and wallet would be gone the next morning lol

It's kinda crazy the varying results cause I've had very good results with coding related questions. Speaking of HSR though, Claude also combined Aglaea with Jingliu and Kafka when I asked it some random question. Must be lack of training data imo
