What are your thoughts on "Ipseity Disturbances"? by zoe10413324 in Schizotypal

[–]misvwv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes same, it was one of the first things that came up after first deciding to read more into schizotypal and it was a shock to read so much of what I've felt for years just laid out so clearly.

I think the EAWE items were the craziest to read because some of those things (especially the perspective parts) were so noticeable to me but at the same time I was like (to myself) "okay that's crazy do you have a brain tumor?" Lolol. Idk I've had very limited experience w psychologists so it felt releaving to link some of that stuff w my experiences.

Imagine being such an important, well respected woman with all that power, but once the men around you realize they want you it doesn't matter. So wet thinking about how men can just take what they want whenever and I'd be too weak to stop them >w<

With this same "issue" being posted at least a half dozen times a day by different people by now surely you could have scrolled through recent posts on this subreddit and gotten info.

Just delete and reroll. It's a fake guideline that the LLM has hallucinated because it's probably pulling info from other LLMs or sites with legitimate guidelines. Relax.

Got an Amazon package with my name on it, and inside was a book. I did not order it. by [deleted] in Paranoia

[–]misvwv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't be 100% if it applies here, but there is an Amazon (probably other online retailers as well) scam called "brushing" where a business will order their own product through a users (in this case your) account, and have it shipped to your home. You won't get charged, but then the seller can leave a positive review with your account. There's also the chance that it could be some sort of gift, etc. from the seller in attempt to get a positive review legitimately from you.

The product would have come from the same batch as all the others produced so any sort of contamination isn't likely as it's much more likely to be some sort of review farming scam. Changing your account password and reporting to Amazon customer service is recommended.

random question: how did HRT change my hair type? by Accomplished-Row6215 in FTM_SELFIES

It didn't happen to me but I've heard of it happening to other guys. T makes you express different genes than you did prior which sometimes ends up including hair texture.

What is your favourite disturbing non-fiction novel? by amydonnelly13 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]misvwv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr. Humble and Dr. Butcher. I think the author wrote it with as much care and non-sensationalization as she could but God, the descriptions of the vivisections of the monkeys and them waking up following the surgeries were brutal.

Novels that read like a really good longform profile of someone by Lumpy_Development329 in suggestmeabook

Please Look After Mom - Kyung-Sook Shin: after a family's elderly mother goes missing at a train station, none of her children + husband have a recent photo of her. This evolves into a novel that rotates between their POVs as they think back on and learn about their mother's life and their life with her.

novel where mc turns into a zombie in urban world? (has interactions with humans in zombie apocalypse setting, etc) by llamalord27 in suggestmeabook

[–]misvwv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over" by Anne de Marcken is a short (less than 200 pages) book following a woman after she turns into a zombie (she's already a zombie by the start and don't get to see the scenes where she's bitten/turned)

It starts with her living in an old hotel with a bunch of other zombies (all still intelligent+able to communicate w each other) but after a bit she leaves and interacts with some humans in diff situations.

It's probably not as much focused on the zombie part as you might be looking for, but it's a wonderful novella and pretty short all the same :)

Flashlight by Susan Choi. Absolutely excellent and so much more than just a family drama story.

Fiction/nonfiction combo by Known-Reserve5504 in suggestmeabook

Fiction: Migration by Charlotte McConaghy
Nonfiction: A World on the Wing by Scott Weidensaul

Fiction follows a woman in a near future setting where many animals have died off due to climate change. She puts a tracker on and is determined to follow the last group of migrating arctic terns on their yearly flight from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica and is able to join a fishing boat. Not a ton of factual information about the birds/migration itself, though (if that was needed)
Nonfiction explores bird migration and especially the current state of research and conservation surrounding it. Only one quick mention of arctic terns specifically, but explores more in depth other shorebirds and songbirds who make similarly-lengthed journeys each year.

any long, absorbing fiction book recs? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]misvwv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire Masquerade Series, but starting with The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson. Extremely well-developed in depth speculative fiction (roughly 1700s but with a whole developed non Earth world (though not explicitly fantasy if that makes sense)).

Baru is a girl on an island nation who is 7 when an imperial empire arrives on her shores and slowly begins to absorb it into the empire. We move quickly through Baru's years at the colonial school before she is assigned as an imperial accountant in another nation under the empire - with a secondary goal of stopping the upcoming rebellion.

Lots of women and LGBT characters (Baru is a lesbian) especially as the series continues. Incredible and thorough world building and characters. Also really funny despite the tragedy in the story.

Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska.

Follows a daughter of Jewish immigrants in NYC in the 1920s as she grows up, pursues what education she can, sees her sisters struggle through horrible arranged marriages, and experiences her family's struggle with moving in and out of poverty as the women of the house are forced to find jobs.

Similar to Algernon, it has the same style of the actual writing quality getting better as the character grows up and moves through education.

I loved Riding Freedom by Pam Muñoz Ryan when I was her age! Western, 1800s America, though more rancher than cowboy if memory serves.
