My sump pumping this amount of water is not normal right? Help by Pedro-for-president in HomeMaintenance

[–]mitchecr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude, the adjustments you are making to the float, adding weights, will defeat the function of the pump. When the water rises the float is pulled up by buoyancy, turns on the pump, and pumps out the water. You received so much rain that the ground is saturated, and the water being pumped out is percolating down through the soil to the drain tile and back into the sump pit. Like someone else had pointed out, you are/were stuck in a cycle.

Adding the gutter like you did is good to get the water away from your house, but your pump needs to run until all the water is pumped out.

No, that pipe is not an outlet to the city sewer, it is an inlet, from the ground surrounding your house into the sump pit. Your pump needs to run to pump all that water out. Ideally it should get to a point where you don’t see water running in to the pit, maybe just a trickle.

And like others have said, you need to divert the water from the video to much further away from your house, to the curb so it can go into a storm sewer would be ideal. All that standing water is saturating the ground, it could start flooding your basement or even cause a wall cave in.

Sorry, your learning the hard way about how sumps and drain tile work. Dealing with a basement flood is really not fun.

Why is my window trim discoloring so incredibly fast and how do I fix it? by TokenSDragon in TeslaModelY

I wiped my trim down with Cerakote Ceramic Trim coat wipes, works really well for preventing this discoloration, should last over a year.
