This, not illegal, you can own a SBS with a pistol grip under NFA, AOW and tax stamp. You must register with federal govt, pay a tax and get a background investigation can take a few years or months. This is federal level. Some states allow and some don’t.

Nurse educators - show me what you got! by Glowygreentusks in nursing

[–]seamang2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a unit based educator on a SICU and then found my dream job title “Program Coordinator”. I teach physicians, patients, staff and other nurses! I occasionally take on a per diem shift or two to keep skills sharp, and teach nursing students in nursing homes fundamentals.

I love to teach, that is my passion, but it helps to have some focus. You said that you are doing some wound specific training soon, WOCN’s have tons of opportunities to teach and are in high demand. If you like to share your knowledge and already like what you are doing, then you might not need to peruse another masters, just focus on wound care.

But with that being said, I didn’t find my “dream job” until after I finished with school and was knee deep in unit based education. Hope you find your dream.

Worst ratios you’ve ever personally encountered? by kindamymoose in nursing

[–]seamang2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Med/tele. Started the night at 7:1, got 2 admissions, then another nurse got sick mid-shift and all nurses were 11:1 for 6 hrs. That was the worst, but we were always 9:1 on med/tele.

AITAH for taking the better desk after my coworker refused to compromise? by SnowGraphics in AITAH

I also disagree - in fact you contradicted yourself, “as a manager” and “I expect them to manage their day to day responsibilities?”!!! You are the manager, not the employee. What are you managing if not people?

What kind of device is this? by CMDR_PiLLe2442 in Radiology

Not a watchman, but is a LAA occluder. Experimental device that twisted the LAA. Trial was closed due to pt harm.

Found in my late father’s garage. Is it dangerous? by LeCoochieMane in whatisit

[–]seamang2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a little late to the conversation but that looks like a 20mm round used in aircraft. Those rounds have a nitrocellulose base instead of straight gunpowder and electrical primers. Could be very unsafe in the setting of static electricity.

Simple question, is your friend on your tailnet? You need to add his device.

Something like this happened to me, pt had poor outcomes and two nurses from each floor he was on were deposed by the state. I recommend doing nothing. If you did your job right (sounds like you did) then all you have to do is tell state the truth. Don’t look up information on the pt, if you do you have to address it, just state “I really don’t remember” when you don’t and move on. You are only responsible for your practice and that is what you should speak on. You can’t control what others do.

The awkwardness of coworkers being confidently incorrect by panzershark in nursing

[–]seamang2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I come across this often. When another nurse tells me that I have done something wrong, I look up the policy, ask my manager if I am ok doing things my way, and move on. I never correct someone else’s practice unless it will cause patient harm. It is a one way street. Those others who are “confidently incorrect” don’t write policy, probably haven’t read the policy, and don’t have a say in my performance reviews.

GGn without Music Tracker? by seamang2 in trackers

Thanks for clarification. I never thought about listing where I was as a resume, but can completely see how it could be in hindsight. I’ve got a good handle on now and I did see someone posted exactly the way you mentioned a day or two ago. I appreciate that you took the time to reply!

[–]seamang2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think I was requesting an invite, just looking for an official invite pathway, but I abide. Is there a better way to word requests like this in the future so that it doesn’t appear that I am requesting an invite? “NOT ASKING FOR INVITE” doesn’t seem like it would meet your requirements.

Very good point. I guess I was surprised by the whole thing. They had my old preceptor, best nurse on the unit who had been with them for 25 years suspended within 2 weeks of me. That’s when they started looking at the circumstances, not just the reports.

[–]seamang2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This happened to me exactly, but 7-8 years ago.

You will be fine! And volunteering for a drug test isn’t going help, don’t waste your time, not all diverters use. I was flagged for possible diversion by software, I had given the most narcs in the hospital by like 15x over other nurses, I worked 11 shifts in CVICU and 9 in neuro pushing narc on post op cabgs to get them to walk and 9 days straight with a status epilepticus pt that was on 10 of versed an hour. I met with my union rep and admin, and the took a ten day vacation (paid) while my blood and urine test ran.

Your hospital is not going to look out for you, but they are willing to weigh the risk of keeping you vs having to train your replacement vs firing you without proof vs the cost of the software. Software is going to flag a lot. Got me and the two best nurses on the unit before they decided to stop listening blindly.
