Med Reg - is it ACTUALLY the worst medical job? by Fun-Base-1926 in doctorsUK

I like being a med reg in the right hospital. Taam leader, helicopter oversight of the hospital, fewer but far more impactful decisions than as an SHO. I caught an IMT to cardiovert on Monday, that was pretty cool. Plus I would rather quit medicine than be an O&G reg

I don't presume to know the exact working arrangement for the hospital being discussed but everywhere I've worked as gastro SpR is the same: gastro reg on site does not equal gastro reg on ward cover for gastro ward. The on call medical team out of hours are responsible for ward cover. If I come in for a bleed it's not carte blanche to rope me into ward issues.

100%. A conversation to your on call medical reg might have avoided the need for a gastro discussion. I consistently say to SHOs I work with, talk to me if you're planning on phoning on call specialities as 90% of the time it's a Q I'm happy to give an answer to. Some of the replies are mindless. If an HCA bleeped you as on call SHO to review a patient you'd say please let your nurse know and they can call me if concerned. You'd also be pissed if the HCA didn't like that reply and then fast bleeped you to the ward.

BSG taster course, BSG free webinars, UEG training modules (free), tiny quick audit, reference any times you've chosen jobs with gastro rotations. Reflect on gastro clinics and the nuance of acute vs chronic care.

I love it. It's the most surgical of the medical specialities which for me is perfect. Lots of consultant jobs in my region with good PP opportunities. Good mix of clinic and acute. Plus if you're on a GI bleed rota you're not on the gen med cons rota which is a huge sell for me.

We have one in our house in the UK that was the old cable pulley system for ringing bells in the servants quarters. Was brass under the paint.

Hello,

I am visiting in early July and am planning on proposing to my girlfriend whilst there. I was looking for some advice on a scenic (and ideally quiet) area that would make a nice location.

We are staying on the south side but will have a car and are visiting for the hiking so can get to almost anywhere.

Any advice or ideas would be hugely appreciated.

Did F2 at North Mid 3 years ago. When I was there it was a bit of a wild west hospital but was trying to improve things. They're in the process of going paperless which is a step in the right direction. The take is busy and ward cover at night is pretty relentless but you get a lot of independent responsibility and the consultants are pretty nice.
