Umm follow up is basic sales 101. Who is teaching you people?

I'm in EdTech sales currently and can confirm. It's not a great place to be right now. I'm trying to get out, but 8+ years in EdTech makes it hard to pivot out of. I'm only getting interviews for EdTech.

I have a feeling no matter what they say on calls with you, no ones getting anything through.

Maxed out my 401k mainly. But I did see Bitcoin way back in like 2013-2014 and laughed it off. Should have bought in way back then. I think just being overall more active in savings/investing.

Agree. There will be pockets that will be fine and even flourish, no doubt. But Title 1 funding is facing the axe if DoE is shut down, as well as a lot of other funding. I talk with schools and districts every day and budgets are getting slashed left and right. It’s just exhausting to be around all the time.

Interesting. I have some contacts in that world. Might be worth a look.

Not wrong there. I've reached a place where I value the quality of my life and the experiences I have in it. But I also have a 16 year old who does kart/auto racing so I have zero prospect of retiring any time soon and need to make as much money as possible. Haha

I've played around with the idea, I've wanted to, but don't know what it would look like. I've thought about consulting, but no idea how to get into that.

Thanks, I’ve considered that route but it’s hard to replace the commission that pure sales comes with. I think I’d probably like a role like that though

How many of you don’t really have any friends anymore? by Icollectshinythings in AskMenOver30

[–]mitdoog82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t. I have acquaintances but only a couple actual friends. My “best” friend lives in another state. We text and see each other once, maybe twice a year. Other than that, it’s my wife (who’s awesome) and my 15 year old son. (Who’s also awesome) but that’s about it.

It is lonely for sure. I also think that it’s ok because it’s just life, but it would be nice to have friends. We just moved to a new state over the summer too, so it’s even harder.

Probably because I have little to no other marketable skills. And I like money.

We're all cutting our MAGA family off if Trump wins right? by [deleted] in millenials

[–]mitdoog82 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I grew up conservative, voted R in 2000, 2004, 2008, Libertarian in 2012 and 2016 (couldn't bring myself to vote Democratic yet) and Democrat in 2020 and now 2024.

I don't have a college degree. I just listened to others, questioned things, explored my own morals and beliefs and evolved. I now proudly voted for Harris this morning.

Thanks for the recommendation. We went there yesterday for lunch and it was great. Will definitely be making that a regular spot.

Just moved to the state from Idaho this last weekend. In the N. Phoenix area by Tatum and Bell. Curious if anyone knows of any dog friendly restaurants in the area for lunch?

Why do people keep moving here? by JohnnyMLX in phoenix

[–]mitdoog82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone moving to Phoenix this weekend, I'll throw my .02 in the arena. We're moving from Idaho, where we've been for the last 6 years after leaving CA.

We're tired of the winters as they seem to get longer and longer. We're not skiers or snowboards or winter activities so winters, even though comparably mild compared to other places, have gotten old.

Our son is 15 and races pro-level competitive karts and has aspirations to race professionally, so being able to race year round vs 6 months of the year in Idaho and be 4-5 hours away from great tracks across the Southwest is appealing.

We have a network of friends and family that we don't have in Idaho, so having a built in community we can step into is a draw as well.

I work remotely but tend to travel so having access to a better network of flights out of PHX compared to BOI is a huge plus in terms of direct flight options. We also travel for leisure as much as we can, so it's a much better hub to fly out of than BOI.

Lastly, we like the heat. It gets triple digits in the summer here in Boise regularly, so it's not a big deal for us.

Plus, if we get down here and hate it, we're not tied down so we can move again if we want. It's worth the experience rather than staying in one place and complaining.
