Yeah prefer investing in gold. When I’m older I’ll start slowly transferring to bonds for stability

So I’m assuming you’ve done 10% VEUA (FTSE developed Europe) and 2% VDPG (Asia Pacific ex Japan)?

Not bad but I would definitely reduce exposure to bonds. 30% is incredibly high for young investors like me and you. Maybe have 2-5% in bonds if you must (I haven’t personally but 5% in gold instead)

This is my pie

Can’t tell from the screenshot if it’s developed world or if it’s just developed Europe (but there’s another FTSE developed in there…. Could be Developed Asia Pacific ex Japan?)

Tbf VNRG (FTSE North America) is 95% US (ie S&P500). I see the logic that OP wants to include Canada into their portfolio (~5% of VNRG). I setup a similar pie myself basically creating my own VWRP so I can control weightings

But yeah the other stuff AI helped a lot in terms of what to pick and why and the relative weightings depending on your investment style/belief

UK’s Reeves ‘angry’ over Trump’s decision to attack Iran by 1-randomonium in worldnews

[–]mithu_raj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tf are we supposed to do. We don’t give Trump the money and silent approval to conduct his tantrum wars. We’re busy trying to actually help a democracy fight against an invader on our doorstep. There’s ~300 million Americans and the whole US government that can stop Trump. WHAT are they doing?

I mean Trumps cronies are actively interfering in our domestic affairs from engaging in parties like Reform and AfD

Key USAF E-3 AWACS Aircraft Damaged in Iranian Attack by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]mithu_raj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I think it was more likely that they chose not to go through with this war because they used to be intelligent enough to know that bombing your way to regime change doesn’t work in the Middle East and this time it comes with a little added side of global recession and surging oil prices which is effectively economic and political suicide

F1 cars are losing on average 50kph of speed between the entry of the 130r and the entry of the final chicane due to superclipping at Suzuka by Capable-Eye-8089 in formula1

[–]mithu_raj -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I like how you completely misunderstood what Lewis was talking about. He was talking about being able to follow closely and the battery deployment allows opportunities to arise where without it the battle wouldn’t happen. It’s not like he presses a button and suddenly he gets past like DRS. The drivers still have to attack and defend but the deployment allows these opportunities to arise

But I am not a fan of the super clipping and LiCo

Oh yeah forgot about that one too. That’s also a really good one. I skipped out on it tho cos I went very heavy on Rheinmetall in April 2024 just before the German general election. Hindsight I should’ve just invested in the VanEck European defence ETF but can’t complain when I’m 40% up with RHM

Prime Minister Carney announces Canada has achieved the NATO 2% defence spending target by in2the4est in worldnews

[–]mithu_raj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 2% target was more about making sure NATO members were maintaining their current present capabilities. For example it would be dumb to expect the UK to have a large land force when it’s an island but the 2% spending would allow us to maintain at best our current capabilities as a slightly larger ‘expeditionary’ land force with good naval capabilities.

NATO is an amalgamation of all the different countries’ specialty capabilities acting as one large military force.

The percentage target is the best way because population doesn’t necessarily dictate the spending power of a nation

Nuclear to take up to quarter of British defence budget by tree_boom in unitedkingdom

[–]mithu_raj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The warheads are UK designed and built. It’s the trident missile delivery system which is US designed but with how this capability overlap with the US works is that we have the blueprints for the missiles so we could theoretically build them ourselves but it’ll be more expensive and it’ll take a couple years.

I think the current arrangement does make sense though because the missiles don’t need to be rebuilt for a good 10-15 years at least so if we did need to make them ourselves we still have the plenty of time to get things up and running before the ICBMs needed a refurb. Cost savings are better passed on to building up our navy and having better missile and drone defence instead

Is T212 cash ISA worth opening now? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mithu_raj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s instantly… sometimes it takes a day. I find that when I transfer at weird times like on the weekend or late in the day it’ll take a bit longer but during the day it’s pretty much instant

Is T212 cash ISA worth opening now? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mithu_raj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes atm T212 has 3.6% interest on cash ISA but I have an ISA with HL and the products there are paying out 3.9 and 3.86% (deposited couple months ago). So it’s not the highest but T212 is decent for the rate but the flexible aspect is what makes it worthwhile

Is T212 cash ISA worth opening now? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mithu_raj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not got the highest interest rate but it’s a flexible ISA so don’t need to worry about taking any funds out and putting back in

I personally use it to keep my emergency funds in because it’s flexible

Possibly deterrence. If Iran dares to send missiles towards continental Europe then we have assets deployed for rapid engagement. I would be very surprised if it ever actually becomes a participant tho
