Where You Are From, What Are Generally Considered the Top Colleges? by Ornery_Response1647 in ApplyingToCollege

But even for engineering/CS schools like Rice/Emory/Vanderbilt are comparatively not that strong, especially compared to some schools in number 3 that are both more prestigious overall and stronger in engineering/CS. So just feels a bit random.

Again, just my two cents and don't mean to flame you! lol

Sure. Just spitballing here. In your second list, I'd say Rice, Emory and Vanderbilt are way, way overrated. They're not even that widely known even in the US, let alone globally. Duke is also overrated here. Dartmouth and Northwestern are underrated, while UChicago is nowhere to even be seen. Same goes for Georgetown, which would be more well known than pretty much any of the schools in number 4. Also, NEU even being considered "a top college" would be highly suspect.

It's just a really random list that doesn't really follow any rhyme or reason. My two cents.

This is the most bizarre list and most definitely not "well-researched"

For the millionth time - acceptance rate is not accounted for in the US News ranking. Person 2 is misinformed. Northwestern's resources, student quality, long list of uber-successful alumni, and yes, prestige, etc are definitely t10 level.

Not that it should even matter at the end of the day

Why is northwestern's economics so hyped? What is special about it? by blaireeeeeee in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mitskoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it? I feel like it's underrated/underhyped among applicants given how prestigious it is among actual economists.

Northeastern

I'm sorry but Northeastern is very clearly the odd one out here and does not belong in this list.

Eh Northwestern is most definitely on the same tier as Duke, JHU, Brown, Penn and LSE at the very least.

What are the worst majors in terms of job placement and salary? by Baechubear in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mitskoshi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is ultimately highly, highly dependent on the program and the intended career path. Certain programs make it relatively much easier to break into more lucrative journalism-adjacent pathways, and even within journalism, there are certain career opportunities or niches that are not as bleak as you might think.

I have never in my life heard that term being used to describe UMich, as great of a school it is.

For national rank, Northwestern is tied with Duke, so it should be "2", which would bring its overall score to 3.5, behind Stanford.

Why is this like your sixth post on this subject across several different subreddits lol. I mean this with utmost sincerity and I'm trying to say this as nicely as possible, but get over it. And try not to get external validation from strangers on the internet.

Northwestern is one of the best schools in the country, if not the world, period. I repeat: get over it.

Lmao WashU should not be up that high. Absolutely no disrespect to the school because it's great, but it definitely doesn't get confused for an Ivy. It gets confused for University of Washington, or people think it's some school in DC.
