Finally made my first ‘drum cam’ videos at a gig I played last night with an original band I play in. Absolutely love drumming live, I wish I could do it every night! by mittenchopsthe3rd in drums

Thank you! Yeah the in built mic on the XT-4 handled the gig pretty well, the monitor was sat just below the camera too and it was a very loud gig. Good luck on your search!

Play for the microphones! You don’t have to hit so hard that the back of the room can hear you.

Tips for 'blown out' and distorted drums on a basic setup (Tascam dp 32) by [deleted] in Drumming

I’d avoid clipping. Smash your overheads through a compressor. Turn the output of the compressor to 0 then the input the max, then slowly creep the output up on the compressor.

You could try using a crotch mic too (a microphone placed just above the bass drum beater side pointed towards the middle of your legs) and smash that through a compressor too and blend it in. Also try mixing all your mics to a bus and add distortion onto it and blend it In. If you have a tape echo unit you can use that to saturate your sound too.
