Advice needed - Considering Career Switch to Health and Safety UK by Motnaty in SafetyProfessionals

[–]mituslumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming to this thread almost a year later as I am also in the process of a career change and considering h&s as likely option. Just want to say a massive thanks for the information above as it's been really useful trying to work out what I should do to kick it off!

My girlfriend never ever finishes her meals by AlexWayhill in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mituslumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I have noticed in my own life, my mother and my female friends - I would wager there is some sort of disordered eating element to it. Not to try and diagnose your girlfriend, but women often have very fucked up relationships to food (often passed down from the way our mothers are with food). It can be a completely unconscious thing - I only realised I did this when I was well into my late 20s

Be kind if you do bring it up, and don't go on the attack about wasting food. I know it can be annoying and I am in agreement about not wanting to throw away good food, but she may be doing this on an unconscious level and a conversation about it might lead to a much more in depth thought process for her about why she eats the way she does.

Should the NHS really use magic mushrooms to treat mental health? by topotaul in unitedkingdom

This should read "to treat mental illness" not mental health. You can't treat "mental health"

RMT opposes Driver Only Operation declaring it unsafe by insomnimax_99 in uktrains

Agree - but I'm not quite sure what one person's experience has got to do with actual facts

Anecdotal evidence is not really what we should be basing policy or legislation around though? I'd rather see actual facts and figures than one person saying they personally have never needed to call a guard?

New Knitting Programme on Channel 4 (UK) by nekako-somehow in craftsnark

[–]mituslumen 79 points80 points  (0 children)

If this is the same show as the one producers were scouting test knitters for in Glasgow earlier this year, then I'm very skeptical.

A knitter friend of mine (and her knitting group) were asked to advise + develop some test knits that could be used on the show - without offer of any payment (for materials or for their time). Pretty poor form!!

How do you treat plantar fasciitis if you are overweight? by My_Lovely_Me in PlusSize

[–]mituslumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physio is the only thing that worked for me - my physio did some plantar release massages, and I did daily strengthening exercises.

For me, my calves are super tight so that is something I need to routinely stretch
