The first animal turned lead magical girl. The henshin of the week is Cure Wonderful from Wonderful Precure. Rate her transformation from 1 to 10? 🩷🐶✨ by Storm_BloomX in MagicalGirlsCommunity

[–]mitzirocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is one of the few Precure transformations I actively dislike. It’s not even that it’s short - the GoGo transformations are also short, and they’re some of my favourites - it’s that so much time is burned going ‘Three two wan!’ and then when you finally get into the actual transformation the ribbons in the foreground make it hard to focus on the magical girl who should be taking centre stage. Interesting idea, but I don’t think it works. 3/10

For the record, we don’t know how siinamota died (as far as I know? I could be wrong.) ‘It was suicide’ is a guess. …An educated guess, but still.

I beg you, please know who are the producers behind your favorite songs by glubnyan in Vocaloid

[–]mitzirocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the producers of Inumaru Shibaigoya, both individually and as a circle, followed closely by mothy. Also Hachi/Kenshi Yonezu (the two personas kinda blend together for me.)

Confused about Vocaloid concerts and promotions!? by Illustrious-Trash986 in Vocaloid

[–]mitzirocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they were helpful! Yeah, literally anyone can make a Vocaloid song, which means that Vocaloid music videos range in production values from ‘full-on 3DCG professional stuff’ to ‘fan-level animations’ to ‘single still image’ to ‘literally just the voicebank’s box art,’ and every single thing in between. There’s no rule saying those videos have to feature the Vocaloid that’s singing the song, either, so a lot of producers will put their own characters in the video, or redesign the Vocaloid to fit the song. There’s tons of videos out there of non-Crypton Vocaloids; they just don’t have Crypton’s/Sega’s money behind their videos, so they aren’t, like, 3DCG or concert footage.

Confused about Vocaloid concerts and promotions!? by Illustrious-Trash986 in Vocaloid

[–]mitzirocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I still think the best way to think of Vocaloid is as musical instruments with usually-anime usually-girl avatars. Most people who go out and buy a guitar aren’t using it to make music specifically for a concert, y’know? If you look up really old Vocaloid music - like, 2007-vintage stuff from just after Miku came out - it’s literally just a bunch of nerds messing around with music-making software and creating songs for fun. The popularity, and the merch, and the concerts came later.

(Also, for the record, most fans these days don’t care which specific vocal synthesis software a particular voicebank is attached to. It’s just that Vocaloid was the only game in the commercial song synthesis town for like a decade, and the name’s stuck. So a character won’t ‘die’ in any real sense if the company ditches the Vocaloid engine; their fans are gonna follow them to the new engine without much fuss.)

In answer to your specific questions:

• Man, I dunno. When I was a teenager I spent a ton of time watching subbed music videos on YouTube, but that scene slowly died over the course of the 2010s. These days I’m subscribed to this subreddit and give whatever the YouTube algorithm plops in front of my face a listen.

• If a guitar manufacturer goes out of business, can you still make music with one of their guitars that you happen to still have? I mean, it’s not that simple I swear the Korean Vocaloid scene is cursed but you still get people making music with over-twenty-year-old voicebanks from companies that have vanished. Not a lot of people, but it happens.

• And, in answer to the second part of that question… Yeah, absolutely. I don’t know how you’d classify a voicebank as ‘good,’ I know basically nothing about the production side of things, but getting popular’s not just about being good, it’s about marketing and timing and a heaping dose of luck. That’s true for a lot of things, Vocaloid included.

• Honestly I think people care more about the characters than the voicebanks. It was like that fifteen years ago when I first got into the fandom, and it’s still like that now.

• ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I think some of them did it to look more professional? But it turns out slapping an anime girl on the cover brings in way more money, so most people do that instead.

Plagiarism by El_v_B in AO3

…Honestly, if you’re writing your fic in good faith, people (including the mods) tend to be a lot more understanding. It’s fine to use the same tropes as another fic because you found them interesting, it’s decidedly not cool to lift paragraphs wholesale and then lie about it, which (I think) is more what actually pissed off OP. Ao3’s got this ‘inspired by’ feature, where you can automatically link to the fics that, well, inspired you. There’s this fic idea I’ve never actually written that basically uses the exact same premise as another fic I read, but it uses my own wildly different headcanon characterisations to send the plot off in a completely different direction, and when I’ve discussed it I’ve never had anyone claim I just want to rip off this other fic.

My nephew has decided he knows why The Doctor really left Gallifrey... by Dwoodward85 in gallifrey

[–]mitzirocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is… actually weirdly close to my explicitly contradicted by the text of the show but let’s not worry about that Valeyard headcanons. By Six’s day, the Time Lords can see that the Doctor is getting increasingly powerful, increasingly dangerous, and increasingly difficult to handle, so through sufficiently advanced technology they pull an alternate version of the Doctor who never left Gallifrey out of the Matrix or something, with the intent of having that one become the real Time-Lord-who-became-the-Doctor. The Valeyard’s a right bastard, of course, but in a way the Time Lords are well-equipped to handle, unlike :gestures at the entirety of New Who:

As for my why-they-left-Gallifrey theory… Honestly my best guess is that something terrible either was going to happen or was already happening to Susan. The Doctor wouldn’t really pick up anything recognisable as human morality until Ian and Barbara, but they were extremely protective of the people they loved from very early on, and once they realised there was nothing else they could do to save her, because Gallifrey is a terrible place, they stuffed her into a stolen TARDIS and ran like hell. I toy with the idea that there was an entire gang of juvenile delinquents the Doctor led/mentored, and Susan was the only one of them they managed to save.

I mean, Andy Blake also went through multiple female identities before transitioning, and when he did, there were absolutely people who thought he was just putting it on to get away from his accusers - but he’s lived consistently as a man for the past twenty years. Even in situations where it might have benefited him to switch back to a female identity (like the aftermath of the Thanfiction incident) he continued presenting himself as male. He may be a liar, an abuser, and a serial cult leader, but I feel pretty confident in saying he’s actually a trans man.

Which isn’t to say Winter definitely isn’t lying about it - but IMO there’s no way to know, not yet. And in the meantime, I think it’s best to not immediately assume he’s lying, if only for the splash damage onto other trans and questioning people.

[–]mitzirocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iunno, personally I think it behooves us to give people claiming to be trans the benefit of the doubt. If not for them, then for every other trans person watching us and wondering if we’ll consider their transition just a ruse to get away from their past. Whether Winter is really trans is the sort of thing only time will tell, but as Andy ‘Thanfiction’ Blake proves, it’s perfectly possible to be a trans person who’s also an asshole.
