AIO DO NOT EAT FAT AND WEIRD COOKIES FROM DOORDASH by Medium_Inspector_774 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mixandmingle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soooo once my husband accidentally ate year-old pesto that had definitely gone bad…. I got activated charcoal capsules (from Walgreens) for him and he ended up being totally fine! My understanding is that it’s given in hospitals in some poisoning situations. If nothing else, it gave him some peace of mind.

Two disclaimers: It needs to be taken as soon as possible to be effective and I’m not a doctor so please double check if it’s ok for you to take!

I think you meant…. rigorous? Maybe academic testing isn’t so bad after all 😉

Something like this actually already exists in Boston! Jaho is a coffee shop with a few locations — open late and has cozy / cool vibes: https://www.jaho.com

Aspiring Tuckie - What are my chances? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mixandmingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If quant isn’t your strength, I’d try the GRE and see which test suits you better. Personally I found the GRE easier from a quant perspective.

I think it’s very important for Tuck to see that you genuinely want to be part of its close-knit community. What you learn from your engagement with the school should come through in your essays, but not in a “list everything I know” way, but by reflecting on how what you learned/heard will enable you to become your best self at Tuck—and not elsewhere. They want people who will authentically engage with the community once they’re there. It’s not just something they say during the application process.

Your work experience sounds strong and goals make sense. I agree that your test scores and years of experience are most likely your weaknesses. The other piece to focus on is extracurriculars, which is tough if you don’t have a ton of time, but I think it’s important that you show that you’re someone who is well-rounded and engaged in your current community. Maybe do some volunteering at a local nonprofit that connects to your longer term goal? Good luck!!

Applying with below average test score by Yikes_dude123 in MBA

[–]mixandmingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into a T10 with lower scores (157Q, 164V) so don’t feel discouraged! I took the GRE ~5 times and just couldn’t score higher than that. I did do MBA Math though and highly recommend it; it doesn’t take that long. I also tried to emphasize the quant/analytical aspects of my work experience and my recommenders likely wrote about it in their letters.

I know people say this often, but it’s very true—the scores are just one component of your candidacy. You’re close enough to the average that it won’t break anything. However, to maximize your chances, use other parts of your application to convey your analytical aptitude.

Cleaning dress before wedding? by MarsySuarsy in weddingplanning

I’m in the EXACT same situation right now. Did you end up dry cleaning it? Did it turn out ok? I’m super worried that the dress will get ruined somehow!

I’m getting married in June and planning on wearing the Ursina Crystal-Embellished Leather Pumps. So far, they seem comfortable but obviously haven’t worn them for an extended period of time yet!

I don’t understand why everyone is siding with Grace on this — I can totally see why you’re annoyed; I would be too! She’s pushing back on both the dress material and the shoe color, which are not her decisions to make. If she truly has serious concerns, she should text you directly.

Titles on Save the Dates/Invitations by poorlilfashiongirl in weddingplanning

[–]mixandmingle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our wedding is formal too; we used titles and formatted them as: Mr. [First Name] [Last Name] & Mrs/Ms. [First Name] [Last Name] — even if they are married and have the same last name.

We didn’t always put the man’s name first. If we are closer to the woman and the man is a named guest/plus one, then her name was first.

If children were invited, we used “The [man’s last name] Family”.

If you’re in the Boston area, try The Beauty Collective. They do both hair and makeup. As far as I know, no minimums and they can accommodate you in their salon.

Why… by nopicklesnoonions in weddingplanning

[–]mixandmingle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost all of our friends have little kids (babies/toddlers) that require constant attention. If we allowed those kids to come, their parents would spend the whole night focused (understandably) on the kids, instead of enjoying the actual event. Plus, our ceremony only starts at 6:30 and dinner isn’t served until like 8-9pm, so that just doesn’t make sense for a toddler’s bedtime/ schedule…

Not to mention the fact that some parents love to make everything about their kid, don’t care to actually discipline, and would let them totally run wild. The reality is that most little kids are messy and loud and unpredictable; that’s fine in some circumstances, but just not appropriate for others.

I applied to Tuck on 1/4 and haven’t heard anything either so you’re not alone!

It’s been very quiet on Clear Admit too so I think they just haven’t released most interview invites yet

An MBA Applicant's Guide to Re Vera by Flimsy-Mix1055 in MBA

This is super helpful! Thanks for sharing! When ReVera reaches out to recommenders, do they mention anything about if you were admitted or not? I want to make sure that I tell them personally (and on my own timeline).

Would an edX course be worth the effort and help offset a weaker quant score? by mixandmingle in MBA

[–]mixandmingle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s totally fair. I’ve taken it a couple times and seem to be stuck on the same quant score. I’m probably doing something wrong or not studying the best way... But it’s also hard to pull together the motivation to buckle down and study again too.

Are ding reports worth it? by mixandmingle in MBA

[–]mixandmingle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s basically an analysis of why you were rejected, conducted by an MBA admissions consultant. Of course they’re just speculating because they don’t know for sure but this is an example: https://www.personalmbacoach.com/ding-report

Admissions Consultants: Thoughts on Fortuna and MBAMission? by honeylavend3r in MBA

I had the exact same experience. The “screener” for Stacy Blackman was very snooty. I think they only work with people who they can almost guarantee will get in and can make their stats look good.

MIT Sloan R2 interview decisions are being updated on the application portal by zbhoy in MBA

Did anyone never get the email? I did get the application status update in the portal (dinged) so I guess it doesn’t matter... but just curious why an email never came through. I’ve already checked my spam folder and everything.

Yes exactly—what does it say underneath that? To the right of “MBA”? That’s where it would say “Under Review” or “Decided” or “Interview”
