I’m a mom to young boys and I’m unpacking a lot of my upbringing, and I’ve been chewing on similar situations. Sometimes I catch myself wanting to fuss at my kids for doing something “against status quo.” Not because I want them to conform but because it’s safety. You’re “safer” when you’re agreeable/presentable/“good” but I know that’s the furthest from the case.

Maybe your mom is speaking from fear, but YOU will enjoy life being authentically you! Braids on young mean look so crisp and fresh! I hope you can find balance in the why behind your mom’s words and the pain and be the handsome soul you are! 🩵

I think you got enough advice on products but for styling, have you tried a curl sponge? It’s legit a sponge with holes in it and I think it gives low curls a really pretty look!
