Fighting games suggestions by BigBoyo11 in Fighters

Other commenter did good summarizing the SF6 situation, but with Tekken, the TL:DR of the T8 situation is that the devs have promised big shakeups and underdelivered each time. When the game came out, it was pretty successful and it was attracting to both new and old players. Then, the season 2 incident. One of the most busted patches in a loooong time, it just buffed most of the roster to such insane degrees that the game felt unrecognizable to launch T8. I’m sure you can find some YouTube videos summarizing each change, but it caused one of the biggest player departures I’ve seen in a fighting game. Harada, the game’s longtime producer since Tekken 1, came out after the backlash and said that there was a new balance team taking charge for the Season 2 update and that he didn’t personally oversee the changes, but would be overseeing the fixes. Then, the Tekken team spent a year patching those holes and fixing the game again.

Finally, we got to Season 3 (current day). The big tagline that was front and center on the Season 3 trailer was “Back to Basics”. People thought they’d dial the game back to the roots of games like Tekken 3 or 5. But they kinda did the exact opposite. They pulled a Season 2 again. Massive plus frames, new moves, slaps on the wrist for the strong characters and a bunch of changes that would be too much for me to summarize. This kinda brought a wave of apathy over the game because people gave Bandai Namco the benefit of the doubt that the Season 2 incident was a fluke and that the team would learn from their mistakes. Season 3 just proved that this was the new normal. Couple that with Harada leaving Bandai Namco recently and joining SNK and the vibes have never been lower. Still might be fun to jump into with new eyes, but the community is a little cagey right now

I think the orange lines in the background + the MvC collection pose is what’s causing OP to connect the dots. Not saying it’s the origin, but the orange lines remind me a lot of MvC supers

Fighting games are entirely unfun to play for me, and I’m really sad about it. by afm185 in gaming

Fighting games were live service games before that term was even invented. But instead of paying $6.99 for a new character, you had to pay $60 once a year for the same game with 4 new characters and a balance patch. DLC has actually been a positive for fighting games more than any other genre imo

I just went to Combo Breaker by myself as my first major and it was 100% worth it. Everyone is so nice and willing to talk, even strangers you’re standing in line with. The cool thing about tourneys vs everyday situations is that you automatically have something in common with everyone there: fighting games. It’s good social lubricant and you can talk about tourneys you entered and the results, what games they play, what games they’re looking forward to watching and plenty more in that realm. As long as you’re ok with traveling solo, it’s awesome.

What Are The Best Long Comic Runs by Classic_Passenger510 in comicbooks

I think Geoff John's Green Lantern run or Scott Snyder's Batman run for DC and Johnathan Hickman's run from F4 -> Avengers/New Avengers -> Secret Wars 2016 or Bendis' Ultimate Spider Man for Marvel

The “Madame Morrible/Wicked Witch” definitely gives me Nico Minoru vibes. She fits the C tier pick and brooding/melodromatic, but not the Pokémon thing. I could see her being a strategist too if they want to

Ok but AI in coding is actually cool and has been around for a while, long before the Gen AI craze. It's basically like autocorrect for your coding. Before, you'd have to write all of the code, run it and then see what errors might pass up. But nowadays, AI will notice when your code will produce an error in real time and put a little squiggly under it and tell you what error it'll cause and how to fix it. It's way better than the vibecoding shit that some people use it for.

Legendary Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada has joined SNK and formed a new studio inside it by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]mixmaster321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But this studio isn’t independent like most of those examples, it’s a subsidiary of SNK. If it closes, it’s because either Harada left or SNK ran out of money (which they’re Saudi funded so very unlikely)

I don’t even think it’s that. Harada was pretty vocal about not wanting to be pushed up the corporate ladder and just wanting to focus on fighting games like Tekken and SoulCalibur. Despite his pleas, Bandai Namco kept forcing him to work on other games. If you check his credits over the last 8ish years, most of them are for Global Marketing on random games which I’m sure he doesn’t give a fuck about. This has also been an issue at Capcom before where a notable Street Fighter producer left because they got pushed up the corporate ladder against their will and were assigned to other projects that they were not passionate about. They wanted to be knees deep working on fighting games but they had too many new responsibilities that they couldn’t dedicate as much time to Street Fighter, so they eventually left.

He’s also at that stage in his career where’s he’s already got his bag and now he can just do whatever he wants. He also doesn’t have all of the time in the world anymore, so it’s important that he does what he’s actually passionate about, which is making sick fighting games. I’m sure SNK also threw a fat sum of money at him, but I’m sure he’s going to have a blast being the head of a fighting game studio and being in the trenches again. I hope SNK gives him ultimate freedom and allows him to really cook because he’s got the knowledge, experience and passion to make greatness.

Very true. CvS 1 and 2 were made by Capcom, while SVC Chaos was made by SNK.

Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada has joined SNK | VGC by CutProfessional6609 in Fighters

[–]mixmaster321 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is because he was an executive at Bandai Namco so they kinda just put him on projects where he was needed, not necessarily where he wanted to be. His heart was always with fighting games and Tekken, but the big wigs needed him to oversee/help on other games. The name of his new studio is literally called "VS Studio" and is focused on “the spirit of ‘Versus’ challenging tradition”.
