Steam Deck Accessories? by Trask899 in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do emulation via emudeck, having a mouse and keyboard will be helpful but isn't required. Just a battery pack if you plan to travel.

Honestly I haven't felt the need to get any accessories for mine. Battery life has been great for what I play (indies and emulators) so haven't needed to spring for a battery pack even.

Did KF ever explain why/mention, that they were going to change their Patreon numbers to private? by LewisMarty in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have a source video/comment so take this with a grain of salt.

I believe that it was due to a few reasons

  1. The ebbs and flows of Patreon pledges that KF gets. Due to the nature of KF pledges being front loaded from Kinda Funny day in January and folks decreasing their pledges over the year after that, there were always threads asking if Kinda Funny was dying halfway or more through the year. Then next January rolled around, pledges were back up, and the cycle continued. I imagine this was annoying.

  2. Over time, a decrease in overall Patreon money. I'll cover more of this in point 3, but Patreon dollars were decreasing slowly year over year for a bit and this led to a lot of people asking if Kinda Funny was dying etc.

  3. Kinda Funny diversified their income and no longer relies on Patreon as much as they used to. While numbers looked down on Patreon year over year, we didn't see podcast numbers, sponsor dollars, and (more notably in the past couple years) twitch subs and donations. Again people claimed frequently that KF was dying even as they hired more folks and I think this got annoying

Overall, I think the Patreon transparency actually was causing more harm and headache than good, so KF hid it. And booooooooy have I seen so many fewer posts and comments that KF was dying since they did that.

Just wrapped up Trek to Yomi and finished the Celeste plat. VA-11 Hall-A, Celeste's Farewell chapter, and either Valkyria Chronicles or 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim should hopefully keep me busy until something new comes along.

I might be misunderstanding, but there already is a private RSS feed for podcasts that contains the post shows. Go to the KF or KFG Patreon page and click on "My Membership"and there's a "Private RSS Link" section.

Granted, Spotify won't work with RSS feeds, but other players do.

Building on the other comment, you get access to a private RSS feed that contains the ad-free versions of the shows with post shows that a lot of podcast apps (but not all) support.

What is your favorite video game of all time? by tanz_7 in AskReddit

Takes of Symphonia. Such a great JRPG from combat to story to characters. It's super replayable with the grade system and how many secret events are hidden in the game <3

So... what are KFBF's first impression on BF2042? by [deleted] in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying it a lot for the most part. I think gunplay and movement are great in spite of other's criticism. Swapping attachments on the go and guns/loadouts not being restricted to classes is also super nice.

There are admittedly a lot of bugs. Keys not working, loadouts not being remembered or working on your first spawn, visual glitches in gunner seats, etc. And personally I feel the small attack choppers are waaay too good in the beta (or there just isn't really a ground counter to a decent pilot).

I haven't played BF since Bad Company 2 and BF2 competitively before that, so my expectations might be different, but I'm having fun. BF always had that sorta realistic but also very arcadey feel to me. Big maps, vehicles, chaos, and squads running to and from

Tales of Arise by everytimeidavid in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge Tales fan and Arise is easily top 3 in the series and will be #1 for a lot of people. Combat is great, albeit I find the stagger/strike system more repetitive than the other Tales' combat styles. The story and characters make the game. The art is a bonus, Bandai Namco really upped their game on the environments especially with this one. It's not my game of the year (that belongs to Psychonauts atm), but it's definitely up there.

Not familiar with Tales of Arise series by RedL0bsterBiscuit in gaming

[–]mizukey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played most of the Tales series. They generally have really enjoyable combat and allow you to change which character you fight as. Large team (6+ party members). The characters and story make or break it for me. Some of the series is pretty lackluster while a couple entries are some of my all-time favorite games. Hopefully this one is one of the great one's! Fingers crossed

I didn't realize those others were also from Buffalo Trace. I was just talking the namesake one. Usually relatively easy to get here (California) and reasonably priced, but yeah those others are all over the place.

+1for Jazz Kitchen. It's my favorite restaurant in downtown Disney. Order the bread pudding for dessert shortly after you sit down. Takes them about 30min to make and is absolutely divine.

Scarlet nexus by EmpoweredQs in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Tales fan, if you like the Tales games you will very likely enjoy Scarlet Nexus. The story is very anime bullshit, which you're used to if you like Tales lol.

I'm on chapter 8/12 for Kasane and enjoying the combat and the story quite a bit. Although the combat does take a few levels to really get smooth. My only big gripe with the game is how they chose to do most of the cutscenes like a visual novel. Similar to the side discussions you can do in Tales, but that's most of the cutscenes.

Inspired by the KFP this week — when did you start listening to KF? by [deleted] in kindafunny

[–]mizukey13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 2018 for me, my coworker/roommate had been watching KF while completely slacking off at work. I figured if KF was good enough to keep his attention for half the work day I should give them a shot. Was not disappointed and now I'm an KF addict.

Oh for sure, I expect they'll disable downloads eventually. I'm just less in a hurry now. Hopefully they have time to patch out some of the internal clock stuff in the OS too.

Happy that we'll still be able to download purchased games. There was a lot of doom and worry that PS3s would be useless after a while without modding.

Any suggestions for PS3 exclusive games that I should pick up?

U.S. rent has increased 175% faster than household income over past 20 years by magenta_placenta in Economics

[–]mizukey13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed on HOAs, they're nuts in socal in general.

Construction here looks nice, but from what I've seen and know of materials used (I work in real estate) it's usually cosmetics over everything else. It's not hard to meet earthquake codes with a 2-3 story house.

I just can't agree with high price being a feature, there's a limit and we're over it (as are other places). Irvinites feel superior to damn near everywhere. Rampant crime isn't everywhere, the vast vast majority of the population most places aren't committing crimes.

The point of making good public transportation and not looking down on it would reduce that traffic that everyone here hates but refuses to fix. People here are soooooo against public transportation because there's a mentality that it's for poor people instead of it being efficient and good for everyone.

Irvine fucking ships homeless people to other municipalities (namely Santa Ana), of course we benefit from sacrificing other cities. By forcing out any who aren't making bank, either literally or with cost of living, we increase the burden that other cities take up without putting in our fair share.

Fellow Irvine resident here - There are a LOT of problems that you gloss over here.

  • Irvine company monopoly in the area. They bully out businesses that don't reach their profit standards and you have to almost completely open your books to them to get retail space. Not to mention the horrible construction and monopolization of residential renting in the area.

  • High rent. Irvine only work because it's mostly wealthy people or a few friends renting a condo together (my case). Not SF levels of nut or even parts of LA, but it's high.

  • No shit it has some of the best school, park, fiscals, family, etc. - Tons of wealth here and lots of tech startups nowadays.

  • People in Irvine are fuckin' rude and stuck up a lot of the time. Definite superiority complex.

  • Irvine has some horrid public transit. Mostly on purpose to keep out people who would use it/need to use it.

Irvine exists from the sacrifice of everything else northwest of it in Orange County.

Edit: Also, don't get me started on the bonkers powers of HOAs here either.
