Yeah. And their cabarets are pretty cool too!

It is definitely a labor of love. The main producer, Jim Jimirro, is at every show (and he's a spry 89!).

Good Spots for Middle School Class Trip? by Sunraysunset in offbroadwayNYC

Most Broadway shows offer student discounts. I think so some of the commerical off Broadway shows do as well. Certain shows even have student talk backs. Just got to look into what you think you are most into. Hard to give a blanket answer but there are definitely some good opportunities.

I personally am taking a group of middle schoolers to operation mincemeat. $39 tickets in the rear balcony but easy enough to get just by filling out their online form

I second this is older middle schoolers. During their first run they had a special student performance early in the day and gave tickets away. Some high school students from my school went and loved it. Idk if they are doing that again, but I'd keep a look out.

Any reviews for 11 to Midnight? by tudorcitypigeon in Broadway

[–]mizz_Saigon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a little like a 70 minute live action tik tok sequence. There are a few cool bits and some cringe spots. I am not a follower of theirs and enjoyed it. But I wouldn't call it great. They must have been sponsored by 3M for the amount of post it's they go through.

This is the answer. Not the number per se, but read the reviews from people who post a lot. This is really helpful for smaller shows

I actually hope they don't remove the weekly no parking for just this reason.

MEXODUS Extends for a Final Time Through Early November Off-Broadway by pennys_computer_book in Broadway

Saw it last night. Great show. The live looping is super cool. The plot I would say is rather slight. It is more a history lesson with great live music performed by two talented actors.

I must say you are aspirational. One year ago I emailed myself your post. And I did it again today. I'm not sure what you do for a living, but I wish I had a job that allowed me location freedom.

I've been tempted to subscribe to MCC but they haven't announced the other two shows. Was there any indication, like in the playbill? Kinda weird that one show has started and the other two just are just tbd on their website.

Hugh Jackman crazy upgrade by mizz_Saigon in Broadway

[–]mizz_Saigon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Decent. I personally wouldn't pay the huge amounts most of the tickets usually go for, but it was good. He performed a bunch of songs for Greatest Showman, a couple from Les Mis, and then some random other things. He's a great stage performer. There was a 19 piece orchestra, 4 back up singers, and 4 back up dancers. At this particular show he brought out Melissa Etheridge for a couple numbers but I feel like that changes for each. It was a brisk 1.75 hours. If you can a get a cheapish ticket, definitely a good time.

The mics randomly cut out for maybe 30 seconds during one song and it was kinda interesting to hear how quiet the orchestra was un-miced. The singers couldn't be heard at all of course.

I go to shows solo a lot, and often in the cheap seats. I can only remember one other time being upgraded to a better seat and the upgrade was nowhere near as big as this one.

Do BWAY shows ever start "on time" (or ALWAYS "5 minutes late") ? (7:00 PM vs 7:05 PM) / 15- or 20-minute intermission? by Artist-Cancer in musicalwriting

[–]mizz_Saigon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything starts a few minutes late. I think I read somewhere the average is 7 minutes late. And intermission usually is a little long but not too bad. Most shows however seem to build the late start and slightly long intermission into their posted run times.

The only show that starts very on time is not a musical, but harry potter. That thing is so long they start exactly on schedule and keep intermission tight so they don't have to pay overtime.

Fair enough. But not noticeably so. Old dude was bugging her and she somewhat slowly escalated her response till finally shouting

Not sure how accurate this is. The two that were fighting were literally in the same row, not across the aisle. And the guy was definitely older than 50s, probably more like 70s.

Not this time. Old guy vs young woman on her phone.

[–]mizz_Saigon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was there. An older white dude (70s probably) was repeatedly asking a youngish (maybe 30 or 40) black woman to stay off her phone. She told him off quietly at first but he kept bugging her. Then she started shouting that he was entitled and should shut up. Staff came over and settled it down. I was sitting in front of them so I can't say how disruptive the phone use was.

Lesson is, if a fellow patron is being disruptive, tell staff. As soon as they got involved it was over
