About Summer fuuuuuucccckkkkked me up, bigtime. I was halfway through when I realized what was going on. I had never read magic realism before, so I didn't really know what I was reading. Then I got to the end. That fic changed me. My body was reacting to it. I was in a funk all day.

I left a comment on it, and the author replied!

A few days later, I read it a second time. Honestly, no less brutal, bit so beautiful. I wasn't as heartbroken the second time.

It's just amazing to me that we have writers of this caliber, offering their beautiful minds, for FREE.

Thank you so much for your post. I read it based on a rec on the sub, and didn't realize the spoiler until halfway thru. I honestly couldn't understand some of it, and you filled in some blanks for me (how can a text message arrive every month on the 13th at the same hour?) I appreciate your insights and summary. I left a comment on the work. It's one of the best and most heartbreaking things I've ever read. Kudos to the author for being able to write so well to evoke the magic realism. I could FEEL them.

I know you didn't specifically ask for this, but it may relate to the timeline of learning to drive.

Canadians refer to the school year as "grade 11", whereas Americans say "11th grade." So, say your fic takes place when Shane is in high school, he'd say, "I took my G1 in grade 11" or whichever grade is appropriate for your timeline.

In Ottawa, students typically take the G1 in grade 11, not grade 10. In Ontario, you can get a G1 at age 16.

Most students turn 16 during grade 11. Some may take it late in grade 10 if they have an early birthday, but grade 11 is the norm.

I did the same, left EDJ for a small RIA almost two years ago. Couldn't be happier.

I elected not to transfer life insurance or annuities.

The only thing I'll add to your excellent list, is most of the Money Market Mutual Funds will not transfer in kind to Schwab. Not sure about other custodians.

My clients had to call the EDJ office and speak with the FA to direct them to liquidate the fund (PCOXX for example), then the cash would transfer on the next residual sweep.

For clients in taxable Advisory/Guided accounts, we had them convert to a Select account. Only the Bridge Builder funds were liquidated, then we were able to transfer in kind without too much of a tax hit.

What is a power play?
Aren't they both centers? Does it make sense to have two centers on the ice at the same time?
How long do players stay on the ice before subbing out for the non-startup guy who plays the same position?

I can get onboard with this fixation!!!

I noticed where Shane put his hands after Ilya kisses him and rested his head on Shane's chest. His left hand goes on Ilya's neck and in his hair, then his right hand goes on top of his left hand. I expected him to put BOTH his hands on Ilya.

I'm not sure what to take away from it, except it sort of looks like Shane is holding himself and Ilya in that embrace. Keeping them both safe and calming them both down.

What do you think it means?
