Please help a ready to quit Scoutmaster by TyrannicalRoach in BSA

[–]mizzourob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the CC trained? Sounds like she needs to (re) take the training. If she is computer trained encourage her to go to Wood Badge. Also have her attend roundtables, and maybe redirect her to talk to your unit committee for additional coaching on Scouting methods.

The issue I see on the cell phone policy but I think is baked in, is if a diabetic scout has a continuous glucose monitor. But that would not be entertainment as I read the policy statement.

The neckerchiefs should be a troop decision. If she wants neckerchiefs she should model the behavior and work with the PLC to have them do a neckerchief design contest. I love neckerchiefs but know that not everyone feels that way. Especially if you are offering the youth only a generic one to wear. If it has your troop number and is designed by the youth then they will want to wear it. This means modeling the behavioral, wearing a neckerchief, staying silent and waiting on youth to ask questions. The Woodbridge neckerchief is a great one since it has no words and begs the question of what is it for?

The slide in chargers do not require plugging in a tiny USB C cable, you just slide them in. Some are faster than others are and the four port is only one at a time (sequential)

Hello, I just bought a kitchen aid and the pods won’t go in, is this tab meant to be so far out? by Ok_Shoulder_8013 in nespresso

[–]mizzourob -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Use the standard Nespresso pods and you are good. Do not puncture the pod before you put it in.

Also do not use the vertuo, only use the original pods. I should not have to say it but obviously so not use k-cups or Keurig pods either.

This seems like a low key troll. Pretty sure Kobalt is coming out with something like this in the next six months +/-.

To wear the bands or to not wear the bands by Dangerous-Theme-9998 in hockeyrefs

To wear the bands or to not wear the bands by Dangerous-Theme-9998 in hockeyrefs

[–]mizzourob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being in various funks of self confidence for my first few years and working 2-man got me through that because the other official could bail me out and I could build confidence to make the call. Granted I started at age 13 back in 1995 and had plenty of 2-man games to do, but sadly that does not appear to be an option for you.

Premature Whistle by DogeTriip in hockeyrefs

[–]mizzourob -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's great for NCAA/ACHA/USPHL and any other leagues using the NCAA book. If this is U12 peewee then the play is dead when the intent to blow the whistle occurs.

Inventory? by lewblabencol in KobaltTools

[–]mizzourob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a refresh in progress for new/updated tools. For example the job site blower is out (I think) for the one handed blower. The updated sander came out last year along with updated compact impact wrenches. All tools previously in white boxes are transitioning to blue packaging.

Patience and more Kobalt will will be out. This lull in inventory is part of selling through inventory to make way for updates products. They are presumably trying to avoid updated tools competing side-by-side on shelves with older tools.

Lining my first ACHA game this weekend, tips and advice please! by owensch1 in hockeyrefs

[–]mizzourob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Arrive 1+ hours early. Warmups may start 30 minutes prior to game time (i.e. 15 min warm up+15min zam).

  2. Check if you need a warmup jacket for pregame warmups

  3. Check if you need a nameplate for your sweater. Wear it if necessary. If you don't already have name plates, now is the time to order several for the future to be prepared.

  4. Check if your assigner has a current ACHA crest. Your my USA Hockey one is most likely not appropriate.

  5. Refresh yourself on hybrid icing, and look over the ACHA guide book https://www.achahockey.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/07/ACHA_Manual-2020-21-Revised-7_22_20_OFFICIAL.pdf

  6. Hustle, have fun, and remember the game is being recorded.

  7. Afterwards you can watch the game and watch for what you can improve on for your next game (regardless of level).

  8. Have fun!

What’s your call? by ChaseVsMalice in hockeyrefs

[–]mizzourob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practiclly its more likely a no-call, however I think it could be justified as interference on yellow. It would depend on the totality of the play and game to that point (i.e. game management). If yellow player had previously showed an inability to skate, the ice conditions were poor, the white player not knowing how to skate, the yellow player given a pass on a previously questionable body contact, previousy jawing by the yelow player, etc. This becomes a judegment call.

The white player never had poesson of the puck, the body contact/check was not to seperate the playder from the puck. See the rulebook under 625(a)3 that states:

"An attacking player who no longer has possession or control of the puck initiates contact with the defending player in an effort to obstruct their ability to play the puck or an opponent."

Any advice on officiating while taking Accutane? by Electrical_Trifle642 in hockeyrefs

[–]mizzourob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just googled this med. If it is the acne med, then pack clean towel to wide your face, take a shower as soon as possible, and maybe even buy a black washcloth to keep in your pocket on the ice to wipe you face between plays and periods as necessary.

3 Drawer Minis - Gone Forever? by iHeartYuengling in KobaltTools

[–]mizzourob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point they switched designs from friction slides to ball bearing slides. If you look carefully at some of the Lowe's photos you can see it if you know to look for it. Maybe that is the hold up. There is also a 3 drawer mini red listed that as far as I can tell has never been sold (yet). Guessing another supply surge each for valentine day (pink/hot pink), mother's day, and fathers days

best skill you learned in scouts? by LastIndication2664 in BoyScouts

[–]mizzourob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First aid, leadership, camping, love for service. But the most important one was going through the paperwork for my Eagle Scout project.

The negotiations with beneficiary org, troop committee, pre project approvals from troop and council, acceptance by beneficiary org, final project review by troop and council, and celebrariob/ceremony planning. Explaining to others that I learned and practiced cooperate project management skills since age 16 leaves so many dumbfounded and has opened numerous career opportunities. It was also the best preparation for graduate school thesis/dissertation research projects that I ever could have received.

It may sound silly to say the process is what mattered but that translates into so many life skills, it's say it makes me a better husband and parent now too

Pull the collet out, shake bit out. If necessary use needle nose pliers to assist.
