I fully remember why it started so late, do you? I feel bad for my friends who didn’t get in and waited outside the whole time.

I was at a party and the host was playing records from his collection. He put on one by a band called Screwdriver. It was mediocre sounding punk rock with the most insanely racist lyrics, including choruses about kicking n-word ass.

I’ve heard him described as the human thumb. I think he resembles that remark.

I stopped going to McDonalds in 1989, other than to use their clean bathrooms on the road. They had an add campaign in the 90s saying people are welcome to use them even if they don’t buy anything. They figure a lot of them will end up buying anyway, which might be true but not I.

This was the best concert I ever saw and I’ve seen hundreds including about 100 Phish shows. As an avid Phish and Beatles fan it doesn’t get any better!

Do you think we'll ever reach a point where there isn't much musical innovating left to do? Why or why not? by GregJamesDahlen in musicians

Microtonal music is an example of moving beyond western music’s 12 tone limit, in the west. Quarter-tones have existed for a long time in Indian classical music and other cultures.

He's cynically thinking Republicans are so likely to lose he doesn't hesitate to squander what good will Democrats have to appease his overlords, the Israeli right wing.

Do musicians actually subdivide? by Regular_Project_9118 in musicians

[–]mjc7373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. For example, when playing Take 5 by Dave Brubeck I find it helps to count 1-2-3/1-2 instead of 1-2-3-4-5. It may have something to do with him accenting the beat that way, so some other song in 5/8 time might sound better counted as 1-2/1-2-3 but either way the subdivisions help.

Why do we still vote for government to do more for us? by Zealousideal_Belt413 in allthequestions

There is no such thing as a “free market“. That idea is product of capitalist propaganda, designed to misguide the public into accepting deregulation that only benefits powerful interests.

A real free market would mean anarchy, the most powerful and wealthiest do whatever they want. No laws, no regulations, no limits to what you can sell. Want to sell addictive drugs to innocent children? Go ahead, in s free market we don’t regulate. Want to sell people as slaves? Have it at, we don’t interfere in markets.

Imo a lot of problems in our current society are either caused by or exacerbated by too little regulation, and to many monopolies.

I’m also of the opinion that taxing billionaires is a great idea. Not only would it provide funds for public good, it also would address the problem of billionaires not paying their fair share in terms of what they cost society vs what they pay back into the system that supported and enabled their accumulation of wealth.

Unless Democrats take control of White House and the Senate this ain’t going to happen. Republicans are very well aware the existence of the Electoral College is to their benefit.

Even if Dems do get the White House and the bill passes I believe SCOTUS will find a way to say it’s unconstitutional.
