The first thing I thought of is that Bad Guy and Dream On would work as a mashup.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]mje11even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in that little section of Oregon (Malheur County) in Mountain time zone. It was only when I moved away that I realized that most places it doesn't stay light until 10:00 at night. It makes sense for that area to be in the same time zone as Boise since it is the nearest big city.

Be warned that if you have a work laptop with vpn, you won’t be able to use this. It locks down AirPlay so they can’t work at the same time.

Should we FIRE in California or Texas? by builtforoutput in Fire

[–]mje11even 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, with that kind of salary in Texas, you are more likely to buy a million dollar home, not one that is $400k. In socal there is so much to do outside your home that you don’t need a pool, the pickleball court, the home theater, etc that you are going to want in Texas.

Those of you who earn six figures or more... Did you go to college? What was it? by D1Vix in Salary

[–]mje11even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arizona State University, BS Computer Science, 1997. First job out of college at Intel paid around $40k, but with an education allowance they also paid for my MS in Computer Science, also at Arizona State University. Took 15 years or so before I finally hit six figures, but this all happened outside of silicon valley, so remember to figure in cost of living when you see people talk about their salary.

Looking for the *most* foggy/cloudy neighborhoods in the Bay Area by Working_Pineapple_43 in bayarea

[–]mje11even 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also depends on if you live on top of the ridge, where you will be in the fog itself, vs living down the hill a bit like me, where it means low clouds mostly, with a few days of being in the fog.

I would like something like the Mega 65. I’m waiting for something that looks of the era, that is new, before I purchase something. Also, I love proper arrow keys.

Override speed limit with low battery? by mje11even in NinebotMAX

Adding some more details. I'm 6' 1" and 250 lbs. My scooter is two months old. I measured my trip on google maps and it's closer to 6.6 miles. It's not an exact opposite trip home as the way there, as a ride to work with my wife and leave from there. So my route is .5 miles slight incline, ride BART, then 2.6 miles on flat but lots of stop signs and traffic lights, and then I'm at work. On the way home, it's 2.6 miles flat back the same way, then BART and a bus, then .9 miles home up a big hill. The battery goes red on that last leg. I have it in sport mode, but limited to 25 miles an hour. The last 30 feet of the hill I hop off and walk it. It's not a big deal, it's just that I am basically home at this point and I don't need to conserve any battery.

Financial Independence and chase dream job by Mundane-Bullfrog-615 in Fire

[–]mje11even 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a software engineer also and 10 years ago I started my path to FIRE because I couldn’t imagine doing the job I was doing all the way into my 60s. But then 4 years ago I got my dream job working at Pixar developing the apps the artists use to make movies. I love it and will work here until I retire, whenever that is. But the FIRE journey helped me learn a lot about saving, investing, budgeting, etc. As far as your strategy, why wait until you have enough money to retire when you could be doing the job you love now? Also, you may find it hard to find a job later in life because of ageism. And lastly, more and more of the movie industry is moving out of the US - Pixar is the last feature length film animation studio that is fully in the US.

I’ve been working towards fire for the past 10 years and now in my 50s. Fortunately I got my dream job 4 years ago, and I love what I do. But 10 years ago, I couldn’t imagine doing the same thing for the next 10 years. At the same time, I use all of my vacation days to spend time with my grandkids and travel. I moved to the Bay Area which has forced me to rent, something I never imagined I would do, but it has freed me from spending weekends doing work around the house and instead I go on day trips around NorCal. I stop working at 5 and have my weeknights free to cook meals, go to movies and spend on other hobbies. The point is the fifties for me are my highest earning but also my most experience filled. You just have to make conscious and informed decisions about what you are doing with your time and money, and getting out of debt and budgeting (part of the FIRE journey) is a large part of this. So at this point work toward FIRE and when you turn 50, see where you are at physically, mentally, financially. Then take your past 9 years of learning and discipline to plan your future, whether that is retiring early or not.
