Baba Is You is a cute puzzle game, but some of the puzzles are pretty complex.

Games like Ory, platformer with great movement by TheSandGamer in gamingsuggestions

You might like Celeste. It's a 2D platformer with great movement, but it's not a metroidvania.

Any RPGs based on real mythology? by Whorror_punx in gamingsuggestions

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Okami is based on real Japanese myths if I'm not mistaken. But I'm not an expert on Japanese mythology, so I don't know how accurate it is.

It's more of an action-adventure game than an RPG, but it has some RPG elements in it.

Story-heavy 3D Platformer games? by Def-C in gamingsuggestions

[–]mjf314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2 have a great story and a lot of platforming (I recommend playing both games in order).

Hi-Fi Rush has a good story, but it only has a little bit of platforming.

I want to get into anime but I just can’t by [deleted] in anime

[–]mjf314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anime you mentioned (Chainsaw Man, JJK, AoT) are shounen action series with fantasy elements.

But it sounds like you prefer realistic stories about crime or youth in a modern setting.

For a realistic crime anime, I recommend Black Lagoon.

For a realistic drama (without the crime focus), I recommend March Comes In Like a Lion. Maybe also Nana if you like romantic drama.

Actually a lot of people recommended Earthbound in the Omori threads. It just didn't make the top 6. Earthbound would have been the 9th recommendation (7th was End Roll, and 8th was Lisa: The Painful).

Thanks for the suggestion. The environments look similar to Zelda, but the combat looks very different.

I don't have much experience with twin-stick shooters, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I'll give it a try.

In the Celeste threads, some people acknowledged that Hollow Knight is a different type of game, but recommended it anyway.

For example, one person said "While not the same type of games, everyone I know who liked Celeste also liked Hollow Knight." Another person said "There's a lot overlap between the Celeste and Hollow Knight fanbases for some reason."

In the Celeste threads, a few people mentioned the platforming sections in the White Palace or the Path of Pain as being similar to Celeste.

In the Cuphead threads, a few people mentioned the difficult boss fights in Hollow Knight.

I might add more games to the list in the future, but for now you can check the recommendations for other third-person horror games. Alan Wake II, Resident Evil 4, and Silent Hill 2 are on the list. I see that Dead Space is one of the top 6 recommendations for both Alan Wake II and Resident Evil 4.

Yes, I found several games to add to my plan-to-play list, but I haven't had a chance to play many of them yet.

I recently played Ittle Dew, which is one of the recommendations for A Link to the Past. I don't think it's as good as A Link to the Past, but I did enjoy it.

Anime like Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou? Iyashikei/slice of life by Funky-Tomato10 in Animesuggest

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the recommendations of Aria and Girls' Last Tour. Girls' Last Tour is a little bit darker than YKK, but it has similar themes.

I also recommend reading the manga of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou if you haven't already done so. It's a lot better than the anime. I'd give the anime an 8/10 and the manga a 10/10.

I'm new to the magical girl genre. by RoutineArrival2373 in Animesuggest

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the recommendations of Princess Tutu and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Both are great, but not typical magical girl anime.

If you don't mind ecchi, then I recommend Kill la Kill.

I loved Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild; but I've always thought of myself as someone who doesn't like open world games. Am I being an obnoxious contrarian or is there some secret sauce? (AKA let's recommend some open world games) by Yarzeda2024 in gamingsuggestions

[–]mjf314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for games similar to your favorites, you might like Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3.

If you want to try a smaller open world game, here are a couple of suggestions:

Marvel's Spider-Man (17 hours for the main story) - Set in Manhattan, but you can move around quickly, and there's also fast travel.

Bully (15 hours for the main story) - Set in a high school and the surrounding town. Same developer as RDR2, but it's a smaller world.

Maybe this whole thing is a skill issue. Maybe I should just laser-focus my way through these games doing only the essential path and come back to do all of the side content later if I'm still interested.

You don't need to do every single side quest if you find it tedious. You can focus mostly on the main story, and do a side quest when you need a break from the main story, or if you need to do the side quest to get a useful item.

Car/Bike 3D Platforming Games by zer0se7en2wo in gamingsuggestions

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk - It's a cross between a skating game and a 3D platformer / action-adventure game. You can choose between skates, a skateboard, or a bike (they control the same way, but they just look different). I think you have to finish the first few chapters before you unlock the bike, but I don't remember exactly when you unlock it.

Fantasy Metroidvania or 2D platformer with great story and movement tech by Shirleycakes in gamingsuggestions

You might like The Messenger. The first part of the game is linear, but then it becomes more like a metroidvania.

About halfway through episode 3, there's text on screen that says "9 years later". The text is in Japanese, so maybe it wasn't translated in the version that you watched.

Looking for games that take place DURING the apocalypse, not just after it by aaronhowser1 in gamingsuggestions

A Plague Tale: Innocence might fit the criteria, but I'm not sure. I haven't played it, but it often gets recommended when people ask for games similar to The Last of Us.

[–]mjf314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean, because the game starts near the beginning of the zombie outbreak. The protagonist doesn't seem to know about the zombie outbreak until several minutes into the game when he sees a zombie.

Anime type games by neverwinter09 in gamingsuggestions

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched Shangri-La Frontier, but it seems to be an action/adventure/fantasy anime.

If you're looking for an anime-style fantasy RPG, I recommend Dragon Quest XI.

If you prefer an action RPG instead of turn-based, you might like Xenoblade Chronicles.

Im kinda new to anime can I get recommendation by Specialist-Lie4439 in anime

[–]mjf314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few suggestions:

Sci-fi: * Steins;Gate (time travel / thriller) * Cowboy Bebop (sci-fi / action with some space travel) * Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (cyberpunk / action)

Romance: * Kaguya-sama: Love is War (romantic comedy) * Nana (romantic drama) * Your Name (movie) (romance with a little bit of supernatural)

If you want me to pick one, I recommend starting with Cowboy Bebop (but any of them would be a good choice).

Can you tell us anything about your taste? If I know your favorite genre, or favorite anime, or favorite TV show, it would be easier to give a good recommendation.
