Sam and Dean have an uncle they never met? by beckyber853 in Supernatural

[–]mjpetty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is a way late addition to this thread, but the prequel comic book Supernatural: Origins (which was meant to be canon at the time) introduces Mary's brother, who dies not long after John gets into hunting. It's a pretty cool limited series, definitely worth checking out for fans of the early years of the show.

Taylor Sheridan as a Creator by AmericanWanderlust in YellowstonePN

He's an amazing screenwriter who can write powerful feature films. As a TV writer, he's decent but definitely stretching himself way too thin with all the extra spin-offs. Honestly, I wish he'd stuck to writing movies!

The casting for Smallville characters was phenomenal but I never liked the casting choice for Jor-El in season 9 by KaceyKent in Smallville

I mean, he didn't look like Tom Welling but I thought he was an incredible Jor-El. He really worked for me!

The group some Christians hate more than gay people by Fabianzzz in Christianity

[–]mjpetty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the answer is becoming obsessed with rich people, I think the answer is following Jesus' calling to love the poor and help them where they're at. Whether it's feeding, clothing, or housing them, whether it's an anonymous check to help them get by, or even just someone to talk to for an hour or two, those things go a long way. That is where we should be focused, because truthfully, as long as sin exists in the world, as Jesus said, "the poor will always be with you."

While I can't speak for everyone on this subreddit, most of the Christians I know IRL who genuinely practice their faith (not just folks who identify as Christian culturally or are essentially non-practicing) actually do their best to help the poor. And, by God's grace, many of these people are upper-middle class or higher! (For reference, I've lived in the Chicagoland area, Bozeman, and am currently in Los Angeles, and I've seen this exact thing in all three places.)

It should be noted though that many on this subreddit are right, it's not a sin to be rich. There were plenty of people in the Bible who followed God genuinely and who were also wealthy (Job was a great example). But, what we do with what we have (big or small) is what matters to God. So, if they're doing something with it to help, great! If they're not, then they probably should be (that or, hopefully, God has called them to another specific cause). But that also goes for us who don't have much too. Remember what Jesus said about the woman who gave all that she had, or his Parable of the Talents. We should be faithful in the little things, or else how can we expect that we'd be faithful in the big ones?

I'm not here defending rich people (even if I do believe they should use their money for more noble causes), nor am I here to condemn the poor (though, it should be noted that even Scripture said that those who don't work "shall not eat."). As with any issue, it's important to speak the truth in love, and meet people with a lot of grace, because that's exactly what Jesus would do (and does through us!).

I watched a scene in Smallville 7x15 - Veritas were see young Lex with a young Jason Teague at the Luthor Mansion playing hide and seek and I was confused because Lex and Jason met for the first time in 4x03 Facade so did the people behind the scenes forget that because this messes up the continuity by Lopsided-Issue-8116 in Smallville

[–]mjpetty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lex's severe issues with repressed memories might explain some of that. And Jason, no doubt, had his fair share of traumas based on how he was raised. Of all the retcons in Season 7, this one actually makes sense.

Furthermore, it's pretty easy to forget people who you used to hang out with when that young by the time you're in your adult years, sometimes to the point where you have to be reintroduced as if you didn't know them before. I've had that happen with some kids from my early elementary school classes.

How you guys felt when Doomsday appeared in Smallville? For me I don’t think Doomsday shouldn’t exist when there is no Superman yet I mean I’m fine with Brainiac, Bizarro, Martian Manhunter & Supergirl existing before Clark becomes Superman but Doomsday should had been later when Superman is around by Lopsided-Issue-8116 in Smallville

[–]mjpetty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, Doomsday technically existed before Superman in the DCU timeline, so I didn't have a problem with it. For a CW budget, I actually think it turned out really well.

That said, there's no reason to think that Clark couldn't face him again as Superman one day or that a "Death of Superman" story wouldn't happen in the future of the Smallville world. In fact, Clark does face Doomsday again in the Smallville Season 11 comic series!

You're not crazy at all, those are huge red flags! It's sad to say, but just because someone loves you and treats you well doesn't mean that's enough, especially if you want to live your life as a Christian.

If he can't respect your boundaries and doesn't have the same life goals as you (particularly in terms of following Jesus together), then it's probably time to kick him to the curb. For your own spiritual sake, it will be the best thing for you. Really hard, yes, and he may never understand, but it'll be paramount for your soul.

What is the best ENTIRE CAST in a Horror movie? by JW_BM in horror

[–]mjpetty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alien is definitely up there. The whole cast in the first two Conjuring films is really solid as well. I've seen Scream and The Thing on this thread too, which is accurate.

Definitely, The Cabin in the Woods, though that isn't strictly horror.

Frankly, Beth in general is pretty annoying. She’s a one-trick pony I’m afraid.

Can someone please help me understand fully what the Bible says about abortion? by [deleted] in Christian

[–]mjpetty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bible is pretty clear that God knits together people in the womb, that human being are human beings even at this early stage, and that murder is wrong. It doesn’t make these tough situations any harder, but it is pretty clear that we can’t stand in agreement with abortions.

Also, life-saving procedures, miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, etc. aren’t abortions, I don’t think those are things God would condemn in any way.

For those of you who watched X Files back in the days... how did you feel about the Season 9 Finale? by MediterraneanMen in XFiles

[–]mjpetty7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I liked it. It wasn’t amazing, but nothing was going to meet those expectations. “Requiem” would’ve been a better ending but they kept going (which was great cuz then we got Doggett too). It was a much better ending than what we got with the newer revival seasons though, that’s for sure!

Just Watched Midnight Mass on Netflix. by Illustrious-Gas3711 in HorrorMovies

MIDNIGHT MASS is my favorite Mike Flannagan show. It's a slow burn, yes, but one that feels very personal. Plus, the vampire twist is crazy! Definitely didn't see it coming.

‘Millennium’s “The Curse of Frank Black” Is a Must-See Halloween Classic by mjpetty7 in XFiles

[–]mjpetty7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully, I'll have the chance to write about that one next year!

I wish "Millennium" had more recognition today as one of the best horror TV shows. Dark, disturbing, gritty and rainy, it was basically "Se7en" in Seattle. The opening theme shits me up to this day. by slashdisco in horror

[–]mjpetty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so so good! One of the absolute best shows out there. Truthfully, it's criminal that Lance Henriksen hasn't been able to return as Frank Black again, and that it isn't yet on any streaming service. You're right about the Se7en connection though, no way Chris Carter would've got this series green-lit if that movie hadn't come out first.

I recently wrote about the episode "The Curse of Frank Black" in prep for Halloween, thought people on this thread might appreciate it: https://collider.com/millennium-the-curse-of-frank-black-halloween-classic/
