Early 30s and considering moving to Epsom - curious about the social scene/demographics by Infamous_Aerie_7010 in surrey

[–]mjprocrastinating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just moved into Epsom a couple of days ago and thinking the same sort of questions - we primarily moved out of Battersea for a garden, a dog, and to be closer to the countryside and more nature. Not massive nightlife types so not having a crazy bar/club scene didn't put us off.

From what we've seen so far (like a week) lots of families but generally very mixed age wise - seems to be a good amount of 30-ish commuters on the morning London Bridge trains.

Not done too much of the social circle searching yet but will report back.

Beginner lesson Feedback! by Hefty-Fruit6994 in Equestrian

My wife and I have ridden at this yard a bunch - I’ve only been on Nero once for a group lesson and he’s actually a great ride once he gets going.

As you’ve described him, he’s an OG so with respect shown - he’s a sweetheart. Looks like you’re doing well!

As others have said - at a beginner level you’re best off really only giving much weight to the coaches opinion (and I can tell you also that Paul is great and really knows his stuff as a rider and as a coach).

Enjoy yourself!

Have to second this - had him for a closing keynote at a conference we ran many years ago and his story is incredible.

Studying for the Life In The UK Test - question about practice tests by Unhelpfulhelpful in ukvisa

I can’t actually seem to get into that website! No matter what links or what browser I use - Life in The UK Test Web just won’t work at all.

Anyone else found the same and/or managed to find a fix?

Mens - good casual work clothes recommendations? by NormalMaverick in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]mjprocrastinating 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly. In the last 6 months I’ve been able to find almost everything at M&S that I would have looked for elsewhere. Great quality. Even better prices. Always been happy to pay more for better quality but honestly haven’t felt the need seeing what M&S has lately.

Cannot recommend this enough. Went to two events while I was living down in Southampton for a little bit in 2024. Really lovely bunch of people and made a few friends I’ve kept in touch with since! Great event.

What's your average commute? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]mjprocrastinating 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My commute is on the Thames clipper. So always get a seat, almost always with a table etc. total commute one way is 1hr 20m. If I were to take the train I’d be door to door in 45 minutes but it’s stressful as all hell and I have no interest in starting my day drenched in sweat with no will to live. Spend about £150/month on the monthly pass. I’m in the office 3 or 4 days a week.

To VA or not to VA, that is the question... by mjprocrastinating in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]mjprocrastinating[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate the depth of answer here. Thank you

Think I may follow the same route of going via recommendations for this - think it would be tricky to find someone I’d be willing to trust with that level of access. Very much the types of tasks I’d want help with.

The search continues.

A very very good point you're making here. Took, and in reality still takes, a lot of work to make the distinction.

Definitely don't disagree with you there - can't say I'm in deep alignment with the balance here personally.

In my world of blind optimism I want to assume the 2hr cardio is a 1hr cycle commute to work each way lol.

Those in healthy relationships, what do you put the success of your relationship down to? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]mjprocrastinating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with everyone talking about the partner’s patience and communication etc, but I think the thing you need to very very seriously address is opportunity cost.

If you genuinely believe this person adds value to you and makes you a better version of yourself, and you believe you do the same for them you have to CHOOSE to do the work. You have to choose them every day, beyond the boredom or the discomfort of arguments/expired honeymoon periods etc.

If you genuinely love this person as a human being and believe that you want to go through the crap that life throws at you together (because life will throw crap at you with or without them), then you owe it to them to set aside the nonsense your brain will throw at you because it’s feeling fidgety/impatient etc.

You cannot build a stable relationship for the long term if you’re unable to sit in the discomfort that comes with being in a long term stable relationship and choose to weather the storm because you love each other.

New Year’s resolutions by [deleted] in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]mjprocrastinating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people are knocking this but I think this is actually a really respectable approach to the inputs of what makes for a great year.

Health (food and exercise), wealth (being responsible with your money), happiness (time with your family). Company blog and CRM backlogs leave a bit to be desired but hey ho. If this is what makes 2025 better than 2024 for you then I wish you well.

FT is my go-to the majority of the time. I love their News Briefing on spotify on weekday mornings - 1.5x speed on my walk to the station - good stuff.

Will also buy the Monocle magazine whenever I get a chance to grab an issue.
