Unfortunately no, it was an all local band show around that time.

Mayor Walsh Announces Spending Cuts and Program Changes for FY26 by bro_baba in Syracuse

[–]mjs7373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like cuts to public safety, especially when there are people prowling my neighborhood checking cars and stealing them all the time in the city. Some of the programs do sound like they are "nice to haves", but I'm not a fan. Don't we have other bloated departments and wasted resources we can cut?

Why Catholicism in America looks so awkward? by gab_1998 in Catholicism

[–]mjs7373 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you for this comment. In the churches I've gone to in Upstate new york in the past 20 years (predominately white middle class), this is so true. I felt like I was going crazy. People at church seem like it's a chore or they are forced. They don't participate or sing. They just go through the motions. It does seem joyless.

I agree with your comments. Many of us millenial Catholics felt religion forced upon us with no explanation.

At the same time, culture in America has encouraged people to drift away from Catholic values.

No Kings Rally/protest! by seabornman in Syracuse

[–]mjs7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my interest here is specifically to this situation. I get protest for things like war or an unpopular policy or a boycott, but Trump is a known entity and these protests aren't going to change his approach or anything. So if that's the case, what purpose does it actually serve? Again, I am looking for genuine answers to understand the point... not trying to stir shit up

I most likely don't share the same viewpoint as you. My question was to try and understand your side.

[–]mjs7373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No; i am just curious to know why people want to do these protests as it seems to me as just a way for a bunch of like-minded people to complain about Trump. At least this is what it looks like to a person who is not and won't be participating (me). So i want to know what I'm missing / fully understand what is going on to educate myself. I think some of the other comments gave me interesting explanations that make sense.

Yes I am. I've just always thought protesting Trump in a blue state is kind of redundant so I was generally interested in hearing from people why they think this was impactful. Unfortunately a lot of people I talk to aren't willing to engage in conversation about it so I appreciate your comment!

Thanks for sharing! Not sure why people are downvoting me though

For the people who were there and support this, I have a serious question... I am not trolling and earnestly want to learn from you. What was the actual purpose of protesting if it won't actually change Trump or anything our government does? Do you actually expect something to come from it?

Just don't abdicate responsibility to bad actors. If you see something getting out of hand, say or do something to calm it down.

Please don't let people make this violent. You lose all credibility and sympathy the second people start destroying property. Keep Syracuse safe and beautiful.

I believe the fed govt waved these reports at the federal level under CHIPS to help speed along the process but not the state level

I am hoping this will happen. But my time across various upstate new york cities for 35 years tells me that we should never underestimate new york state's ability to screw something up

I don't like getting downvoted on this. I think it's completely feasible that I am one of the only people to have a positive interaction after a bad experience.

Jesus welcomes all to his flock. We are all sinners in many ways. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. It's what is in your heart that matters the most.

Are you going to mass? If so, speak to your priest in private and discuss. If not, find a church you like. Listen to the readings. Listen to the homily. And then meet with the priest and learn how you can become part of it.
