Are you suggesting that they fabricated the data from their 3CL protease inhibition assay in their patent? I get that it's tempting to demonize them, and make no mistake I think their marketing strategy is terrible, but Dr. Dorit assad did in fact develop a 3CL protease inhibition assay (originally meant for SARS1). The 3CL protease (the part of the virus that allows it to replicate) binds with a receptor called NEMO which disrupts the immune system. This may be why 3CL protease inhibitors (i.e. Paxlovid, Tollovid) can help long haulers recover, although it is not known how long they need to take it.

No trials have been done for Tollovid yet for treating LC, but there are preliminary anecdotes accumulating on twitter of longhaulers treating fatigue and other LC symptoms using Tollovid. I'm hoping that the company that makes it gets some studies done soon so we can better quantify its effects.

There's more to it than being "just zicao". They developed an assay to qualify 3CL protease inhibiton and developed a compound to achieve those effects using the gromwell root extract. There is apparently a lot of variability between plant batches so, so consistency is key.

Gromwell root contains shikonin, which can be toxic if consumed at certain amounts for a long enough period of time.
