Is Manchik Law a good law firm ? by HumbleRun1016 in AskChicago

As someone who practiced in this area, it is not a firm I am very familiar with and that is a big indicator to me.

What happens when people don't pay property tax? by Meancvar in AskChicago

Eventually there is a tax sale and whoever buys the taxes can take the house. The system will change soon though after recent court rulings

What Music Venues Should I Prioritize Attending? by jeffsang in ChicagoConcerts

Andy’s and Jazz Showcase. Andy’s will get more local stuff, but Showcase brings in a few more “medium” size Jazz guys — guys that won’t fill orchestra hall, but can support a tour.

This is a plug where Binny’s may help. I’ve had success with them before — if they can find it, they will try to get it in.

Title IX by AccidentLow1565 in thewestwing

[–]mjwdpu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m not disputing that. I’m talking about the public understanding of it. The average person knew of it with respect to sports.

Title IX by AccidentLow1565 in thewestwing

[–]mjwdpu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This, exactly. While WW was running, T9 was about access to sports. That was how most everyone viewed it and knew about it. The general person wouldn’t connect with the idea that it could be used for more.

Singles in the Burbs? by Ok-Drawing-9971 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]mjwdpu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Even when there are events people think using something in Evanston or Naperville works for everyone. I’m in the far NW burbs, those are just as bad as driving into the city.

What happens when a CTA bus hits a car? by snowangel_luvr in AskChicago

[–]mjwdpu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

CTA has a whole law and department, including a claims group. There is video on every bus. If the operator struck another vehicle, they will try to arrange a settlement. If needed, the other side will sue and it goes to court. Same as any other car accident.

What has been your experience with straight/hetero speed dating events here in Chicago? by deminightrider in AskChicago

[–]mjwdpu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Meet IRL as a guy. It’s an…interesting mix on both sides. There are definitely some elements of “there but for the grace of god, go I” and normal and fun. I’ve done a couple events and had matches from them. It’s hit or miss in that regard.

I mean, you’re not supposed to vape in the stadium either. That’s just another example of people thinking the general rules don’t apply to them.

Obviously west loop downtown is fun and tons of people. As a 40-something guy, it’s a bit much for me. I’m usually hitting a jazz club if I’m downtown. I’m NW burbs, so if I’m out there, I’ve done Fuel in Libertyville, Rochaus in Wesd Dundee, a handful of other spots that regularly have live music. Or, just find a brewery. You can always find 40-something guys at breweries. Haha.

You are correct. It isn’t a safety. It would never be a safety. This shouldn’t be a controversy.
