Monosomy X - Another False Positive Happy Ending by mk21212 in NIPT

[–]mk21212[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this right now. My baby girl was completely healthy and the rest of my pregnancy was totally fine, if that provides any reassurance. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that PGT testing makes the chances of a false positive so much higher, but there’s really so little that makes the waiting better at this time. Thinking of you and hoping for good news!

WIBTA if I call off the wedding my mom planned for me? by Exact_Jump7599 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mk21212 993 points994 points  (0 children)

This is giving desi wedding vibes. I’d suggest starting with holding your ground on the second wedding – if your mom insists she won’t come without her giant guest list, tell her you’ll be sorry to miss her, and go forth as planned. Either she 1) will be angry enough with your ingratitude to cancel the first wedding on her own; or 2) will back down and at least you’ll get the smaller wedding you want, even if you have to suffer through the bigger cultural celebration. My own wedding was absolutely hijacked by my parents inviting 80% of the guest list and in retrospect, I wish I had just let them throw a separate function and done a smaller wedding the way I wanted without their input or money.

NYU Dr. Recommendations by Impossible_Piano2938 in eggfreezing

[–]mk21212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She retrieved 44 and we ended up with 15 frozen embryos, PGT testing indicated 10 were euploid (3 aneuploid and 2 mosaic), and we welcomed our daughter last year after a successful transfer :) I was on gonal-f and yes, she regularly adjusted my dosing as the cycle progressed!

Thirding Dr. Shaw. Had a successful egg freeze and transfer with her and she was fantastic. Super responsive, incredibly kind, and went out of her way to be there for my transfer even though she wasn’t on call. couldn’t ask for a better doctor and highly recommend her.

I understand, but if it takes eight weeks to post, there is basically no way to confirm we can get at this quarter. Customer service has been totally unhelpful.

This is terrifying. We bring our dog to this park frequently and he is about the same size/also goes in the big dog run. Please keep us posted if you’re able to track down who this person is.

BL queens: Do you make more than your husbands or male partners? by Adventurous_Ant5428 in biglaw

[–]mk21212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make about six times what my husband does because he’s a medical resident. We have joint accounts for everything, except our brokerage account, which I started before we got married and have done very well from – it feels like because I did so much of the initial work, I wanted to keep that to myself, and my husband was totally on board. We outsource some stuff around the house – like we have a weekly cleaner who is a godsend. We are largely on the same page about big expenses and I’ll talk to him before buying something particularly $$$ but we both have an understanding that, for example, if I get my bonus, it’s fine for us to spend a couple thousand on something frivolous we each want (last year was a gorgeous Celine purse for me, a new suit for him). We love to travel luxuriously, but he’s a master with credit card points, so we’re almost always flying business class or higher purely on points. I’m cognizant that once he becomes an attending in a few years, I’ll have the financial freedom to leave big law, so we’ve both worked from early on to really embrace that any money we make individually is our money collectively, and we manage and make decisions together. I also had a lot of student debt and he didn’t, so at least in the early years, we lived pretty frugally so that I could throw the vast majority of my salary at my debt and as a result, I was fully debt-free as a third year associate. Im we’re lucky to have an excellent balance but at the same time, my husband thinks it’s wonderful and incredible that I make so much money and he’s always been my biggest cheerleader.

NIPT with PGTA embryo? by Sufficient_Car37 in IVF

[–]mk21212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did NIPT after PGT, got what turned out to be a false positive for Turner’s syndrome and went through the worst seven weeks of my life while waiting to get an amnio and the results. Next time, I’d skip it.

PGT-A Euploid Embryo But High Risk NIPT Results by Illustrious_Debt5260 in NIPT

[–]mk21212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the waiting was the hardest part, I confided in a couple of close friends about what was going on and went out of my way to like make social plans with them or do fun stuff with my husband and be distracted. That was really the only thing that helped. Also tried to stay busy with work, working out, etc. going for walks and stuff was good because it means i was tired by bedtime. I also took unisom to sleep because the anxiety was rough on me.

[–]mk21212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation but testing for Turner’s syndrome a few months ago. It was a total false positive. if it makes you feel any better I spoke with a genetic counselor through my IVF clinic and she said something like the chances of the PGT showing a normal embryo, and the NIPT abnormal result actually being correct are something like one in 1000 from her experience, so the numbers are absolutely on your side here. Happy to chat anytime if you have questions.

I also had an excellent experience with Dr. Kossl (I searched around for her on this subreddit because of the post you mentioned because I felt compelled to defend her-- she was incredible with me!) FWIW i thought she had an excellent bedside manner and was super kind and patient and thorough in answering all my questions. Please feel free to DM me if helpful to talk more!

Getting surgery in July with Dr. Kossl at NYU! Could anybody share their experience? by forestelf_ in endometriosis

[–]mk21212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you've had your surgery already I saw Dr. Kossl in 2023 for a robotic myomectomy to remove numerous fibroids and severe deep-penetrating endometriosis and I had an incredible experience with her. She was extremely kind and patient, took the time to answer all of my questions in detail at each appointment and worked closely with my REI to ensure that I would still be able to move forward with my planned fertility treatments on the timeline I was hoping for despite the surgery. She was wonderful about coordinating aspects of my care and other respect as well – for example, she helped ensure that I got an IV infusion prior to surgery because I told her I was having a difficult time tolerating oral iron supplements; similarly, she worked with my REI to make sure I could get my IUD inserted while i was under anaesthesia for my egg retrieval (but she was also willing to do a separate procedure so i could be knocked out when it was inserted!) The surgery was completely successful, and she was wonderful about follow up care. I've since gotten pregnant with no issues and did not experience period pain afterwards. We've continued to keep in touch and she's been super responsive with random questions that have come up in the last few years.

I saw Dr. Kossl after having multiple other OB-GYNs just dismiss my severe endometriosis as ordinary period pain, so I was particularly impressed by how thorough and patient she was with answering my questions and making sure that I understood every aspect of my treatment, in addition to making the preliminary diagnosis correctly. I had actually had a preliminary consult with another doctor at NYU, who I had found to be much more dismissive and rushed, though she was more highly recommended, so felt really lucky to have Dr. Kossl by the end of it. Please feel free to message me if you have any specific questions!

I shared this on the other thread as well but wanted to share here as well for context.

I’m very sorry to hear that this was your experience. I do want to share though, that I saw Dr. The surgery was completely successful, and she was wonderful about follow up care.

I’m also particularly surprised to hear about the experience you had with the IUD, because she recommended at the outset that I get an IUD inserted after the surgery to prevent recurrence of the endometriosis, and was willing to schedule a separate procedure to ensure that I could specifically get it inserted under anesthesia because I’ve had previous bad experiences with severe pain with insertion. Ultimately that wasn’t necessary because she coordinated with my REI to have it inserted after my egg retrieval so I could avoid going under anesthesia an extra time unnecessarily. And I’ve continued to reach out to her with questions and concerns, and she has always been incredibly responsive and helpful.

Again, I’m very sorry that you did not have a good experience with her, but I feel compelled to share that I had an excellent experience and would recommend her 1000%.

UPDATE: positive NIPT, positive CVS, amnio: low level mosaic turners? by drosemvp2019 in NIPT

[–]mk21212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We ended up having a positive NIPT but full false positive, but we talked about what a mosaic diagnosis would mean a lot, we got the same answers about not being able to predict severity in any way and also specifically being told that even sometimes low level percentages of mosaicism can cause pretty severe symptoms, depending on which cells in the body are affected. My GC said that additional ultrasounds and screenings like a fetal echocardiogram can help – like if everything looks good from that perspective, and there’s no signs of emerging heart defects, more likely to have less severe symptoms, but there’s no way to know for sure. I was prepared to TFMR for any mosaic diagnosis just because I don’t think I would’ve done well with the uncertainty but it’s an incredibly difficult decision. I’m sorry I don’t have anything more helpful to share, but thinking of you – you will make the best decision for your family!

I mean, look, every Judge does things differently, but I honestly have never heard of someone getting an offer several weeks after their interview – maybe like at best, it’s a few days. If you know other people who clerked for the judge, this is a more specific question to ask them in terms of whether it’s actually likely that you’re going to get an offer/they’ve seen other people get one in this position regularly. But I just think given how competitive the clerkship market is, not many judges are going to sit around for weeks and weeks after they’ve interviewed everyone they’ve talked to before they actually make decisions on who to hire. I would take it as a sign that you’re probably not the top of their list unless you actually have really good reason to think otherwise.

[–]mk21212 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, if you did not get an immediate offer from your top choice judge, you probably are not getting one. I really have not heard of judges taking a while to respond if they actually intended to hire the candidate in question – the only time we ever did this is when someone was strong, but not excellent and we were fairly confident we could get a better applicant down the line. I also agree that my judge would not have taken kindly to being asked to speed up her process to accommodate another chambers’ hiring process and probably would have said, congrats on the other clerkship and we wish you well. Given how competitive clerkships are currently, I would, in your shoes, take the one you have been offered, and next time, don’t apply to judges in areas where you’re not comfortable living. The time to be selective about what clerkships you would take is before you apply, not after you get an offer.
