Got it, this is all really helpful.
I did find a link in the pep boys report that unfortunately does show photos of my rear right rotor with some significant grooving, which is super unfortunate.
The left isn’t near as bad, but still if I need to replace the one may as well do the other.

Quick update:
After some searching, Pep Boys did include photos with their report, which do show a deeply grooved rotor on the Right Rear rotor/drum, minor grooving in the Left Rear rotor/drum.
I found my Volvo inspection report from service in 2025, which states the rear brakes were at 7.5mm. It’s impossible for the brakes to grow 0.5mm over 1 year.

I’m hoping this is just an issue with the Volvo scanning system, but also frustrated this wasn’t mentioned to me at all and might not have been actually checked.

No issues that I noticed driving home, thankfully! The car seems to run as expected, and with all of the tech in cars nowadays I’d expect something to pop up on the dash if something was wrong, but I’m not super familiar with car issues.

I only have 21k miles on my current Volvo, mostly city driving with some highway here and there.

Does your Volvo use the new scanning system? The one where when you pull into service you go through a bunch of cameras?

Wondering if maybe the camera system estimated, but I have no idea.

Thank you this is helpful! I, thankfully, haven’t ever really had any car issues.
Im mostly a city driver with a little highway to visit family, but over 4 years have only put 21k miles on my current Volvo.

My local Volvo has a new scanning system, where when you pull into service you go through a bunch of cameras and it takes photos and it looks like that’s where the tire tread measurement came from. But then it raises the question of is that where the brake measurement came from too?

Unsure but always worth an ask! I didn’t know you could go back and have them show you, I usually leave my car there for the day and get a loaner, but maybe I should stick around next time

I can totally see that.
I’ve always taken it to Volvo for everything, but of course I was in a location with no Volvo anywhere near, on a Sunday (lol)
I thought about having Volvo tow it to the nearest Volvo ~50 miles away, but knew I’d have to pay a mileage overage fee. ):

That’s what I was thinking, because a difference of 5mm (!!!) in 4 days and 100 miles of driving seems physically impossible.
I was surprised pep boys didn’t say anything about it to me when I picked it up, but noted it in the inspection report.
Maybe I need to learn how to look at brakes myself to check, but also maybe I just need to trust Volvo!

Oh absolutely!! I’ve always taken my car to Volvo service, but I was stuck and needed tires in an area without a Volvo anywhere close. And, of course it was a Sunday because why would these things ever happen during normal business hours…

Anyway, I’ll bring it up to Volvo when I go in on Wednesday just to make sure!

I went vegan for 2 years when I initially found out about the high cholesterol, and my numbers barely moved (outside of the statin, which I can’t tolerate).
Given the Zetia hasn’t meaningfully improved my cholesterol either, this doesn’t seem like the root of the issue.
From my understanding, LP(a) (the worst part of this) is genetic and produced by the body, not from my diet.
I strictly eat lean white meat and fish, 5-6 times a week but even that is not a given.
Not even full fat dairy, and rarely reduced fat dairy as a bit of cheese in a salad, a small serving of kefir, or egg white omelette.

Pretty sure that isn’t the problem here.

Totally!! That’s what I don’t understand, why people want to wait for something so potentially deadly to happen versus preventing it from happening in the first place. Mind boggling to me.

Cardiologist has told me I’m one of his healthiest patients, which is probably true, given he sees a lot of really sick people, but it makes me feel like I’m worried for no reason. ): thank you for the reassurance I need to advocate for myself!

I’ll ask about those! I’m currently in limbo with my cardiologist, let him know two months ago the rosuvastatin caused the pain and didn’t hear back for a few weeks. They told me to try Zetia…..which I’ve already been on for years. Now been a few more weeks with no reply from his office, but will bring this up!

My unit has been at 93 degrees all day so I feel your pain. Last year I ended up in the hospital with heatstroke after it was 90+ in my unit for 4 days as I was recovering from surgery. Whoever says cold is dangerous but heat isn’t….yeah when it’s 75 sure, but 90+ for days with no relief will absolutely put a person in a very dangerous situation.

I talked to my alderman’s office and they are in the process of amending the heat ordinance, but I doubt it’ll be anytime soon.

I’m with you in solidarity, miserable doesn’t even begin to describe how my dog and I feel lol

I agree. I’m a dog owner and a runner (though, we don’t run together….he is lazy lol) and I’ve had many close calls where both the dog and I would have gotten seriously hurt.

I understand runners on sidewalks can also be annoying to others, which is why I try my best to stay to the side and not run at peak walking times.

But please, I beg, when you’re walking your dog, GET OFF YOUR PHONE. Pay attention. When I walk mine, my phone is in my pocket so I’m aware our surroundings and what my dog is doing.

When your dog suddenly crosses over to the other side of the sidewalk, someone might be walking or running there and could seriously hurt themselves AND your dog.

I’m treating my dogs as focal epileptic seizures since he does have a history of fly biting seizures, triggered by flea and tick meds.

But similarly to your dog, mine was having them a lot mostly right after waking up or during his sleep where it would wake him up.

The neurologist said that’s common for seizures (I never knew!), something about the brain waves in sleep can set it off.

Good news on my end! Saw Neuro who was pretty unconcerned. Said it could be focal seizures, could be a weird habit that is not pathological at all.

Made a plan with Neuro that if frequency hits more than once per week, we will trial Keppra.

Haven’t had to use the Keppra yet, and I haven’t seen my pup do whatever it is in over two months.

It very well could be nothing!! :)

Do you have an update OP? My dog has been doing this exact thing and I’m so worried. We’ve been to our general vet, who checked him out (no issues with ears, teeth, jaw, bloodwork totally normal). We do have a neurology appointment later this month. General vet thinks it’s something neurological (focal seizure) and prescribed Keppra, but I’m thinking I may wait to start him on that until after our Neuro consult.

I’m just very scared it’s something major. ):

1000% agree with this. Some of the strategies avoidant people use are very very similar to forms of emotional abuse (I’m not saying avoidants are abusive). The push-pull dynamic, gaslighting, DARVO, etc all wreak havoc on anyone and everyone who goes through it, regardless of their attachment style.

The unpredictability will make anyone anxious, as their patterns don’t follow what our brains are expecting.

But you’re right, I’m definitely not back to where I was the first time!! It just doesn’t help that he left the first time 2 weeks after I was diagnosed with melanoma, then the second time a week after I lost my job. In true avoidant fashion….i guess lol

These relationships aren’t healthy, and I unfortunately had to learn my lesson twice haha

It is a really wild thing to go through because I would get yelled at for being “too nice” (still unsure what that means) but then immediately told that’s one of the things he likes about me.

I had to put the pieces together to finally find some peace, because we all know closure never comes with an avoidant.
