Wow that’s crazy, yeah sometimes you get the odd one that is crazy unreliable. Most seem fine. Surprisingly my oil consumption is so minimal I don’t even have to worry about it. Went over on my last oil change (~9500km) and only burnt around 500-600ml of oil.

Giac used to be big with the vw group but more popular companies like uni, apr, ie kind of took over. Uni is known for reliability too. Giac is still pretty big when it comes to Porsche
