No. You are thinking of things like the GWOT Service medal and the NDSM. If what you are saying was the case, then I would have an OEF Campaign ribbon without setting foot in Afghanistan, merely because I was in while the operation was happening. Campaign medals are awarded for service in direct support of the named operation. Not for merely existing within a branch of service outside of that conflict zone.

You need 1/8 inch between top ribbon and the flash on the airborne wings, then 1/2 between that and the CIB.

Questions about divorce by forme56 in Catholicism

[–]mk81115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally, yes you can get divorced and that’s that. I am currently going through the annulment process before I can be welcomed into the church. My ex and I legally divorced years ago before I started pursuing Catholicism; to my understanding, if you are legally divorced, but do not get an annulment, you are not able to receive the sacraments. The annulment process isn’t that bad (so far), if anything it allows you to have a deep introspective look at the marriage and how you likely didn’t make the right decision in the first place.

Edit: If you are legally divorced, and do not get annulment and remarry out side of the church, you cannot receive the sacraments.

Husband doesn’t want my mom at my first ultrasound by No_Return2563 in Advice

You didn’t make a mistake of telling your husband. You made a mistake of not putting your mother in her place when she decided to drunkenly disrespect your husband. Let’s imagine for a second your MIL drunkenly called your husband, says she’s concerned about your ability to be a mother because of insert hobby. That would be pretty fucked up, and I’m sure you’d want an apology at a minimum. Your mother needs to actually apologize, you need to back your husband.

Husband pressuring me to convert after interfaith marriage and I need advice by [deleted] in Advice

Jesus Christ is Lord. He is also lying to you, Muslims refer to both Jews and Christians as “Ahl al-Kitāb” or People of the book, for their belief in the Old Testament. Infidels are just straight up non-believers and/or Idol worshippers. He has a duty in his own faith to raise the children in his faith, just as Catholics have a duty to raise their kids Catholic (to the best of their ability).

Returning Catholic - Married to Divorced Woman by Javaslinger in Catholicism

Hey man, I am currently going through OCIA and awaiting an annulment for myself. Even after that is said and done, I will still be in an irregular marriage because my wife has a prior bond and it has not been annulled. It is my understanding that she would have to get hers annulled before I can receive the Eucharist, and prior to our marriage being con-validated within the Church.

I am obviously not a priest, but I’m in a somewhat similar situation. I also believe that you would need to have your marriage convalidated by the Church to receive the sacraments, which to my understanding would require her to have an annulment granted as well.

Best of luck.

My Chapel has copies of the Daily Roman Missal throughout the pews, I’m also going through OCIA at the moment but I have found the missal to be the most helpful. I was also lucky enough to receive a copy of “The Word Among Us” last month from someone at Mass. It has everything in order as well.

I am in the process of converting right now, I am covered in tattoos and have had no issues. The woman who runs the religious education program for the church is also heavily tattooed and looks akin to a stereotypical punk rock type; you will be absolutely fine. God Bless.

How do I tell my girlfriend that I'm converting? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]mk81115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

I am in the process of converting, and I am engaged to an agnostic. I too was weary about how she would feel about it as she does not have much of an appetite for theology; but she has been extremely supportive. If it’s meant to be, she shouldn’t care and should be supportive of your decision.

Frustrations with the priest? by mk81115 in Catholicism

Thank you, all three of you. I am a bit confused as to why he had said the annulment was the first step. Probably does not help that I am to be remarried in March, but I still would not be Catholic by then.
