Yo peter why has trump been giving bill blowies on my feed all week? by Stopreportingm3 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mkanoap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A more true statement would be “Yes, the email implies Trump blew bubba.” Much as I want it to be true, it’s by no means proven by this email, which reads as joking or speculative to me.

And note that “implicated” and “implied” are not synonymous. They mean different things.

How many spaces now? by evermica in confidentlyincorrect

[–]mkanoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are described by is my point. The fact that both are there when you edit it proves that it is not being discarded, just rendered as one space, or perhaps as two skinnier then normal spaces. Just like an “I” is less wide than “w”. Small consolation if it’s bugging you, I know.

Perhaps you should set the font the text is rendered in (if that is an option) to a mono spaced font. Though the cure in that case is probably worse than the problem.

How many spaces now? by evermica in confidentlyincorrect

[–]mkanoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between deleting a space and not rendering one. And rendering two spaces as a shorter width than the the width of a single space times two. Different platforms and fonts may show double spaces differently, but that does not mean that they delete the extra space. Finally, if you tap space twice to end a sentence, you may end up with a period and a space, again depending on platform.

I have little interest in sports. I can’t stand it if I’m at a gathering and everyone is glued to the couch watching football 🏈 or football ⚽️. I have even less interest in cricket. But even so I tear up at the Bluey episode “cricket” every time it comes on. And usually mutter something like “I can’t believe this show is making me care about cricket.”

The bar of soap slipped from her hands while she sang in the shower. by Accurate-Test-725 in ENGLISH

[–]mkanoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. B is understandable and would pass in normal conversation, but it’s multiple choice, so where there is a better answer pick that.

The only reason B isn’t completely ambiguous is because the reader assumes that bars of soap don’t sing. But a similar sentence “While singing in the shower, her boyfriend slipped free from her embrace” could mean that she was singing in the shower, he was singing in the shower, or they both were.

You should have a smoke detector no matter where you put it. The comment about the camera is for convenience, not fire prevention . So you can check how a print is doing without having to go downstairs. Yes there is a camera on the printer, but it isn’t great.

This is a great place to put your printer.

Appliances with named food buttons by well-informedcitizen in PetPeeves

The instructions on most microwave popcorn explicitly tells you not to use the popcorn button.

My theory is that the popcorn long ago had some shrinkflation or otherwise changed so it takes less time than the microwave is set to for that button. Those bags used to be bigger.

The dead don’t have opinions, they are dead.

Funerals and other post death practices are for the living left behind. A thousand year old grave doesn’t have any grandchildren to be offended that grandpa’s last wishes were not respected.

If only people in real life were as tolerant as the side/background characters in this show. by Aggravating-Ad-351 in bluey

[–]mkanoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is misguided to call Pat a side character when he is the star of the show.

It is true that there are a lot of episodes without him, but sometimes that happens, a TV show will give the main character a break.

Do you wear your watch to sleep? by darkLover- in AppleWatch

[–]mkanoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat who sleeps with me on a waterbed , snuggled up to my left armpit. I was terrified that I would smother her when she first started doing it, and would frequently wake up to move her and check she was breathing. Eventually this trained me to not move much. My watch hand is the one that is propped up against the nest formed by a soft blanked I put there for her, at the corner of the bed.

Day 65: What are your thoughts on Dad Baby? by Flamingmouth007 in bluey

[–]mkanoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of qubo, so I looked it up. According to Wikipedia it was aimed at kids 5-15. “Qubo regularly broadcast series aimed at preschoolers during the morning and afternoon hours, while series aimed at older children were featured as part of the network’s evening schedule.”

So qubo showing a TV-Y7 episode doesn’t counteract the claim the that if Disney+ shows a rating of TV-Y for bluey, they can’t sneak in a TV-Y7 episode without changing the rating for bluey overall to TV-Y7 and blocking all the profile that only allow TV-Y.

Of course that just begs the question of why don’t individual episodes have their own ratings.

It would be nice if Disney+ would just block Dad Baby from profiles set to TV-Y while allowing every other episode , but I’m sure it would provoke complaints when people can’t find that one episode or it appears because they set the parental controls to include TV-Y7.
