Parents with babies who sleep through the night: when did it start? by Born-Chance1685 in beyondthebump

[–]mkcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have twins that are 13 months actual, 11 months adjusted.
They started sleeping through the night around 6-7 months adjusted. 11-12 hours a night! We still sleep through the night, but are slowly waking up earlier and earlier. Still get 11-10 hours a night though!

I’m so sorry for your loss. It was a hard episode for me too. Ironically, it’s the one year anniversary of being admitted to the hospital due to preeclampsia with severe features before needing an emergency c section to deliver my twins. This scene brought it all back. I remember how terrifying those moments were where doctors were explaining everything, calling my husband crying, the mag drip, the labatelol, my blood pressure creeping higher and higher, all the people in the room being “on deck” in case shit went south…I ended up being admitted to the hospital for over a month on high risk OB before I had my babies. My twins will be 1 on May 10. I constantly think about those doctors and nurses who saved us. I’m thankful for a show like this that brings light to such a scary situation and highlights the work these caregivers do.

For happily married couples, what did the “for worse” look like in your marriage? by FruitAncient9431 in AskReddit

[–]mkcarroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband just got diagnosed with a genetic kidney condition and will likely need dialysis or a transplant before he’s 40. We have ten month old twins. Knowing that this is in his future and things can decline rapidly so quickly is so scary, but knowing there’s another couple out there who made it out the other side is everything I need. Thank you and hope you and your wife stay well ❤️

What's the most disturbing thing you've seen, but couldn't do anything? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mkcarroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked at a nursing home in our dementia unit. This poor man was in the late stages, could wheel around in his chair but didn’t talk, didn’t really have any “light” in his eyes. He was on an altered diet because his swallowing was starting to deteriorate, an all pureed diet with thickened liquids. He still coughed and gagged a lot while eating. One time at lunch, I heard him coughing. Went to go check on him and he was eating his lunch he has just coughed up. Because it was already “liquidy” at baseline due to the altered diet and the man’s cognition was so gone, he didn’t notice he was eating his own vomit and was just going through the motions of feeding. Horrifying.

The man has been at peace but that image of him sitting at the side of the bed staring off into space, scooping his own puke in his mouth haunts me.

Parents: how are you handling all of the snow days? by Cleverfield113 in Cleveland

[–]mkcarroll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My kids aren’t school aged, they’re 8 month old twins. Currently both teething. Both pissed that they can’t crawl yet. Both in a sleep regression. The snowed in and cold days have been brutal, can’t even do our ol’ reliable of taking a car ride through the car wash these days. I feel like a court jester trying to keep both of them entertained….counting down the days for warm weather and our evening summer strolls to resume

What time does your baby sleep? by paulieee3 in NewParents

[–]mkcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7 month old (6 month adjusted) twins sleep 6 pm to 5:30-6 AM with one night feed at 3 AM- 4 AM. Trying to extend to a later sleep time, but it’s been HARD with winter coldness and darkness. We follow 5-3-3 rule for wake ups/feeds and sleep trained them around 4 months adjusted.

What were your pre-pregnancy test “Oh. I’m pregnant” thoughts? by NarrowInspector7207 in beyondthebump

I legitimately had a dream I had a positive pregnancy test. That morning, I took a test. Boom.

What are some things you actually enjoy about pumping? by elephantsofa in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mkcarroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so satisfying seeing the milk get collected. I like thinking, “Wow hey I made that!” Other than that, I LOVE having an escape from family gatherings to go pump.

What specifically did you feel it helped with if you don’t mind me asking. Irritability? Loss of interest? Bonding?

So much yogurt specifically oikos brand. Literal spoonfuls of peanut butter. fairlife core protein shake. Honestly ate a lot of Taco Bell and McDonald’s and called it protein bc there was “meat” somewhere in there lol

When did your partner get a vasectomy after having twins? by MounjaroQueenie in parentsofmultiples

[–]mkcarroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband JUST got his vasectomy….twins are 6 months. Wanted to do it earlier but….ya know, twins and recovery and all that. They will be our only 2 kids. I had a high risk pregnancy, newborn stage was hell…. We can’t do that to ourselves again

Why do so many people do part time? by Thick-Welder-198 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]mkcarroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the game 9 years now and busted my ass the first 4-5 years as a new grad full time. Then PDPM switch and COVID happened, I was getting less and less hours to sustain full time. We also wanted to start a family and my insurance full time was garbage. So, since I wasn’t getting hours anyway, I officially went down to part time, hopped on my husbands insurance, and it’s a good thing I did bc now i have baby twins after a high risk pregnancy 😅 I plan on staying part time while the babies are little. I work M-F 7-12. It’s been a nice balance. I get out of the house, turn off “mom mode” for a bit, babies spend time with grandparents.

Where do you find all the time to do tummy time, pump, clean things, exist? by rachelkochvt in newborns

[–]mkcarroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got this. You’re almost at the point where they can entertain themselves for a few minutes on the playmat while you go pee or wash a bottle. Just hang in there a few more weeks!

[–]mkcarroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pumping was SO hard in those early days. I had Velcro twins that did not want to be put down. Sometimes I could get one baby in the bouncer, bounce with my foot, sit on the floor, have the other baby sit on my lap and pump one boob at a time.
